REVIEW: The Secret Life of Lilykins by Max Goodman
On the surface, Lilykins lives the life of a typical house cat. But Lilykins has another life – a secret life – that transports her to a world of incredible adventures.
“The Secret Life of Lilykins” is a story filled with animals, adventure and absurdity. But at its core, it’s a story about the power of imagination.
Dear Mr. Goodman,
Ha! I see I’m not the only one who imagines my cat has a secret and wildly adventurous life. My cat Charlotte – the one who fearlessly faces down the vacuum cleaner – can be a secret agent or mountain climber one day then a race car driver the next. She pushes the envelope as a fighter pilot or explores space as an astrocat then swats her feline relations around when she is a swashbuckling pirate queen. Or so I dream things up. Like Lilykins, I like to believe that she thinks big and daring though I’ll have to tell her about Lilykins’ adventures as a scuba diver who saves the environment. It’s not just children who will enjoy the charming illustrations and verse about brave and daring Lilykins. I did too. B
