Open Thread for Readers for November 2025

I am three-quarters of the way through THE EVERLASTING by Alix E. Harrow. I can’t remember the last book I read that affected me like this: I want to speed up because I need to see what happens, and also slow down because I want to savor it, and also slow down some more because I am afraid it will break my heart. And I have to read it while alone, because if my husband tries to talk to me I will bite his head off. Wondering if anyone else can relate, and which book made you similarly crazy.
@SusanS: Maybe you need a little sign you can put out, “GO AWAY, I’m reading.”
@SusanS: I just finished one sort of like that. Maybe not quite that intense but I was definitely “need to know” reading by the end. Review to come this week.
@Jayne: Someone gave me a pair of socks that gets the same point across, but a little more rudely: F*ck off, I’m reading.

All of us Murderers by KJ Charles is my favourite book of 2025. Zeb and Gideon are just wonderful and I can say that Zeb’s family are easily the most rotten characters I’ve read in a long time. Truly horrible people.
I am tired of reading books by authors who don’t seem to know that only an exceptional 25 year old person can have three years of experience as a licensed attorney.

Great way to describe the feeling of reading a good book! I felt that way recently when reading Lois McMaster Bujold’s The Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. They are my favorite of her books, although I did also enjoy the Vorkosigan series (I liked the first 2 focused on Cordelia more than the Miles ones, which I know isn’t the popular opinion), the Sharing Knife series (sort of YA in my opinion, also I could never get over the age gap between the main love interests), and Penric and Desdemona (they’re kind of cozy mysteries). Also, the Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls are currently on sale for $0.99 on amazon!

@LML: LOL! I’m a little tired of reading about super-duper, unbelievably successful 25 year-olds, period, now that you mention it.
If you’re looking for a non-wunderkind lawyer romance, I enjoyed Behind Frenemy Lines by Zen Cho – m/f between twolawyers working in London. I don’t remember their ages but I think early 30s. And the author is (or was?) a lawyer.
@cleo: Don’t forget the animal sanctuary they run, the two book clubs they lead, and the family business they work at each weekend.
