REVIEW: Jingle Tales: Three Short Stories for the Holidays by Linda Mooney
PENNIES – With donations running low for the shelter, Monica tries to find another means to raise enough money to at least buy the children Christmas gifts, when an old man named George helps her discover the value of a penny.
ELF NUTS – The story was meant to help her children cope through the Christmas holidays. She never expected the miracle that followed.
TALLY MARKS – In a post-apocalyptic future, a small group of survivors discover the true meaning of Christmas.
Dear Ms Mooney,
With time growing short before Christmas, I’m looking for short stories or novellas to tuck into my reading schedule and this fit the bill nicely. The stories are pared down to the basics but still pack a punch. A volunteer looking for a way to get money quickly so that children at a battered women and children shelter can get gifts meets a nice old man looking to donate an antique. A harried single mother trying to stretch her pennies until payday remembers a childhood experience and learns that she hasn’t been forgotten. A ragtag group of misfits struggling to survive three years after the bombs dropped realize they got a Christmas gift after all. I’m never sure what I’m going to find in your stories but I’ve enjoyed them all so far. B
