Tiny Tiger Says Why Can’t I? (Tiny Tiger, Big Feelings) by Smriti Prasadam-Halls
In the first book of an irresistible new series from internationally acclaimed creators Smriti Prasadam-Halls and Steve Small, there are so many fun things Tiny Tiger wants to do—if only parents would stop saying no!
Meet Tiny Tiger: a small tiger with BIG feelings! There is SO much Tiny Tiger wants to do—making cookie dough, driving a car, and living up on the moon—but Tiny Tiger gets stopped with a big NO at every turn! Will this tiger tot realize that parents are there for guidance, unconditional love, and support, even when the answer might be no?
Review
I adore Smiriti Prasadam-Hall’s work and I can see children enjoying her books, too. Her rhyming is great rather than forced or strained. And she gets the book’s lesson or point across in an amusing way. Here a small tiger pushes his boundaries because … why not? That’s what children do despite what their parents/guardians say or how they try and rein in young rebellion.
“Why can’t I climb the slide and go as far as I can go?
Oh, WHY must all the answers to my questions start with NO?”
Little tiger eventually decides – via a tall slide – that maybe his parents do know best but he’s still got a bit of a zesty potential response he’s going to hold in reserve for things he really doesn’t want to do. B+

When I asked to read this book, I submitted a haiku of my own for my request.
cats are my catnip
I’m owned by two of them now
please, I must read this
What a wonderful book. Amazing pen and ink drawings go with even more fantastic haiku about cats. They’re all so true as well as often funny. I read many of them aloud to my two cats who looked back at me with calm “yes, we know this” looks. A

You had me with haiku cats. Thanks, Jayne.
@Darlynne: This is one of the last haiku in the book and it punches hard.
