Eagle’s Best of 2015
For me, 2015 was the year of DNFs, re-reads and belated discoveries (I’m only now getting round to reading the hits of 2003). My read list on Goodreads has taken on the appearance of an amnesiac’s photo album, “I gave that five stars, yet I can’t remember a single thing about it!” Was 2015 absent of big-ticket titles? Am I simply losing my memory as time’s withered hand clutches at my throat? Who killed Shergar? All of these questions and more will not be answered below, but maybe you should read it anyway, just in case.
The Billionaire Takes a Bride by Jessica Clare
From the Jacket Copy:
Jessica Clare’s books don’t speak to my soul. They rip me open, drag out my soul and treat it to a day at the soul spa, followed by dinner and a movie. This book delved a bit deeper than other books in the series. While it still retained the Clare-esque lightness of touch, the heroine was scarred and scared, but also tough and kickass. The hero was understanding and kind, and the whole thing was a balm for the billionaire-jaded soul.
Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne
From the Jacket Copy:
This is the first in a spin-off series of Layne’s ‘Stiletto’ series. Where ‘Stiletto’ dealt with the tribulations of the staff at a women’s magazine, ‘Oxford’ takes on the men’s counterpart. The heroine, a sportswriter, is smart and nerdy, and the hero is equally smart and nerdy, and watching two smart and nerdy people fall in love with each other’s smartness and nerdiness is an utter joy.
Make Me by Tessa Bailey
From the Jacket Copy:
Russell and Abby’s book was my most eagerly awaited book of 2015. Russell, the smartass, soft-hearted construction worker and Abby, the clever but not that savvy hedge-fund whizz kid, have been dancing around each other for the past two books in the series. Now they get their own gorgeous, romantic and heartbreaking story. There are japes. And misunderstandings. And meaningful windows. A beautiful ending to a great series.
Risking It All by Tessa Bailey
From the Jacket Copy:
Yes, I have two Tessa Bailey books in my list. No, I have no shame. This is probably my most re-read book of the year. It has so many different elements that I love to revisit: the romance, the angst (such anguish, much man-pain!), and the filth. Bowen is my favorite hero of the year, Sera is my favorite heroine, and yeah, this book is my favorite book. Come at me.
Act Like It by Lucy Parker
From the Jacket Copy:
One of the smartest and sharpest books of the past few years, ‘Act Like It’ made me happy. The main characters were a joy to read, and the chemistry between them–indeed the chemistry between all the characters–was a potent and rare treat.
Loved Jessica Clare and Lauren Layne’s books too! I have never heard of Lucy Parker, and the reviews of her book are so good.. now I have to read it too. Tks, Eagle!
I love Lauren Layne too, Tessa Bailey not so much, Lucy Parker is on my Amazon wishlist but I have too many ARCs and other books still unread on my Kindle that I really can’t justify buying YET another book
What an enjoyable “best of” recap. Thanks!
I absolutely loved Act Like It. It was one of those oh so rare books that hit every one of my ‘OMG I am so happy’ book loving synapses…England, great characters, difficult hero, totally wonderful heroine, angst – you name it, this book delivered!
Great list! And I just won a paperback copy of Make Me from Tessa on her FB page, whoo hoo! I also really enjoyed Irresistibly Yours which I just read last week, and I picked up the Lucy Parker one a few weeks ago. It’ll be a holiday read for me.
You sold me on Act Like It.
