I am looking at the list and surprised by the number of contemporaries and total lack of historicals.
I thought the Chocolate Thief was a nice change for a contemporary. Loved the setting. I wanted to get to know the hero a little more..but I hope she writes more.
I too find it odd that no historical/regency books were on the lists. I have several that I just ordered that I have been waiting for. End of July: Moonglow and The Bride Wore Pearls are two. In August Sweet Deception and Blackstone’s Bride are just twoo I am looking forward to reading.
I’ll come right out and say it: I am relieved at the total lack of historical novels in the recommended reads. Even though I read them–hello, C. S. Harris, loving When Maidens Mourn as we speak–I am mortally tired of earls, dukes, highlanders, princes and so on. Maybe it’s just the titles that make my eyes roll back in my head, but this list is a welcome break. Thank you.
I downloaded Broken Harbour by Tana French from Audible.com. I really liked her last book in the series and I have high hopes for this one.
I recommended Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch.
@Janine – sorry!
@Jane: No biggie. Thanks for adding it to the post!
Nice to have a break from historicals. I haven’t been in the mood for a historical in almost a year. They’re all starting to sound like the exact same story to me.
By the way, I think it’s Emmie Dark, not Emmy.
@DS: I will be interested to hear what you think. I liked Broken Harbor. I lovFaithful Place; I think it’s the best book she’s written. Broken Harbor reminded me more her first book in some ways.
@Hannah E.: Oops, that was my fault. Thanks for the heads-up, I corrected it.
I’m on a break from historical romances at the moment too, which probably won’t last long, but still amazes me — historical romance has been my favorite subgenre of romance since I started reading in the genre. I wonder if it’s something in the air?
@Mandi: I know Laura has at least 2 more contemporaries due out and I think she’s working on a fourth.
@Mandi: I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
@Sunita: She also has a tie-in novella in the “Kiss the Bride” anthology.
