Open Thread for Readers for February 2019
Got a book you want to talk about? Frustrated with a book or series? In love with a new one? Found a buried treasure? An issue that keeps popping up in the books you are reading? Just want to chat about stuff in general?
I would love to hear what books people are most looking forward to in 2019.
I’m big fan of Sandra Antonelli’s Secret Service series. It’s about a British Bond-type who finds himself head over heals in love with his female butler. At Your Service, the first one, came out in September introducing Major Kitt and Mae Valentine. It was set in Sicily with Mount Etna chugging away on the brink of eruption. A new one comes out this March with the title, Forever at Your Service, and takes place in New Mexico. I love that in all Antonelli’s books midlife is steamy hot. My favorite kind of romance.
I’ve been looking forward to Anne Bishop’s WILD COUNTRY (out in March 2019) pretty much since I finished her LAKE SILENCE last year. Actually, longer than that! I’ve been wanting to read more about the town of Bennett since I read ETCHED IN BONE.
@Mzcue: Apparently I purchased the first book back in September, but haven’t unearthed it yet. I’m so glad you mentioned it.
Janine, I’m looking forward to wading into my TBR piles. I’ve suspended every library hold, keeping only the title for the next book club. Desperate times, etc. I own SO MANY fabulous books, or they would be if I ever read them, and the madness has to stop. I feel better already. Thanks!
Like JPeK, I am most looking forward to Anne Bishop’s Wild Country.
Probably the book I’m most excited for in 2019 is the long-awaited conclusion of Megan Whalen Turner’s Queen’s Thief series, Return of the Thief
In terms of next month, I’ve been salivating for Lisa Kleypas’s Devil’s Daughter since I read this excerpt.
Darlynne, you don’t know how much I sympathize! My digital TBR pile is completely out of hand.
I am finishing The Fatal Flame, the last book of Lyndsay Faye’s trilogy about Timothy Wilde, a NYC police man. Set in 1845 NYC, it has been such an exciting and compelling series of books. The first book centers around child prostitution, the second studies the issues of slavery and the third focuses on women garment workers and the early beginnings of the women’s rights movement. I was struck by how each of these books reflect ongoing issues in our times. Timothy is not a character that I will soon forget. This series is historical fiction at its very best – authentic and immersive. I highly recommend it!
OMG!!! A new book by Megan Whalen Turner. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Thief series. I guess it will soon be time for a re-read
I’m reading Becoming by Michelle Obama, and looking forward to All You Can Ever Know by Nicole Chung.
I’m looking forward to Wild Country, Death in Kew Gardens, and the audio version of Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox. I’ve had a library hold on Wild Country for forever so I’m close to the front of the line. :) I would gladly have preordered it if it wasn’t going to be a hardcover.
I feel like I’m missing one but I can’t think what it is. If I am, hopefully I’ll notice when it comes out. I used to be a lot better at keeping track.
