Tuesday Happy News
Recently I reviewed “When Death Becomes Life” in which a transplant surgeon talks about his job and the history of organ donation. Despite the title, transplants are also procured from living donors and here’s a wonderful story.
Single Dad Gets Kidney – Last year a total stranger offered a kidney after hearing about a plea from the daughter of the man’s girlfriend. The anonymous donor called, got tested, met with the family, and then proceeded with the surgery. The teen, Lilian Jarjour, had driven around with a sign on the back window of her car.
“The reason why I wanted to do something like this was because he makes my mom so happy. This guy, he’s changed my mom’s world.”
Stanford said at that point, he was feeling hopeless as his health condition was deteriorating.
“I was rapidly getting worse. I was getting tired, my numbers kept coming back lower and lower, indicating my kidneys were failing, more and more,” Stanford explained. “She surprised me with taking a step to help me out. I didn’t have anything going. It looked like I had all dead ends.”
The surgery was a success with both the donor and recipient recovering well.
How lovely to see a happy news article, Jayne. There are good people out there!
What a great story. I just read Bella Andre’s book, Love Me Like This, about a woman who has poly cystic kidney disease and is needing a transplant. This really brings it into the real world. Thanks for sharing this.
