Welcome to District 5
We were invited to participate in a 13 blog tour to celebrate and highlight the release of the final book in Suzanne Collin’s trilogy, The Hunger Games. In exchange for hosting one day of blog content, we were given a badge (look in the sidebar) and the right to giveaway something neat related to the trilogy on our posting day, August 11. To get into the spirit of things, we decided to redo our blog theme for the month. You know, because we are District 5 for the month of August. You can visit the official facebook page for more details about the entire blog tour.
District 5 is shrouded in secrecy. Well, maybe not secrecy, exactly. It might be more accurate to describe us as a not very oft mentioned District. What we do know about District 5 resembles an afterschool special cautionary tale. Our tributes, the children we send to battle and ultimately die for us and the Capital, have all been killed. One was a drunk speared by Finnick and subsequently died (you can’t survive a spearing by Finnick without dying in one fashion or another). Another stole poisoned berries from Peeta and ate them and subsequently, obviously, died. I’m thinking that getting speared is a much better way to go.
Look, we know what the outcome of the Hunger Games are. Death and more death. It’s not like we are looking to send our best and brightest. But the moral of District 5 is that if you drink and you steal, you will die. Learn and live folks. Come and visit us on the 11th to learn more cautionary tales, engage in a shipper war (Team Gale! Team Peeta! Team Gale!), and try to nab a one of a kind Hunger Games item.

oh my god, oh my god, oh my gOd!! sooo exciting, and I love the background :D
Team Gale! this series has me so excited that I actually get emotional over it lol
All I can say is that Katniss better get together with Gale. Or no one. Just, please, not Peeta.
I think I’m the only person I know on Team Peeta. Why does poor Peeta get no love?
This is the coolest thing! I’ve got the hugest dopey grin on my face right now.
@Jennie: I think some of the other bloggers in the Mockingjay Tour are on Team Peeta. Around these parts though, we’re Gale friendly although I admit I like Katniss better with Finnick. (That’s never going to happen though.)
Okay, I’m so going to be here for this because I just finished this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I just finished reading through your book discussion on THG from back in ’08. Very good stuff.
District 5, huh? Awesome, I can’t wait to see what everyone has up their sleeve for this blog tour.
This is so cool. I’ll be here. Go Team Gale! (although I like Peeta a lot).
I’m so excited for the new book. This series is amazing and I’m sad it’s coming to an end. Looking forward to the 11th.
Team Gale! I like Peeta but I like the childhood friends to lovers trope better. But even thought I’m on team Gale, I think Katniss will end up with Peeta.
Ahh! This is so exciting–I love this trilogy! Definitely Team Peeta! (@Jennie–you’re not alone:)
@Jennie: Another Team Peeta here!!!!!
Peeta is sweet — too sweet for Katniss. She needs the strength and edges in Gale, IMO.
Proud to be a member of District 5!
Team Peeta! Although I do like the fashion designer..although what happens at the end of Catching Fire makes me sad…
I’m on Team I Don’t Know. I like both. Team Both!
I think Katniss will end up with Peeta. As for Gale? I have two guesses: a) he’ll end up with — I don’t want to spoil this for those who haven’t read Catching Fire yet – that girl from a house of healing, and b) he’ll – ah, I’d better wait until DA opens up a book discussion where spoilers are allowed.
The entire O’Reilly clan is awaiting Mockinjay. I am def Team Peeta, but I worry about the statistical probability of Collins going all Nicholas Sparks on the trilogy, which I adore.
We will be on roadtrip when the book is released, but we will be stopping and buying. Cannot wait.
@Kathleen O’Reilly: You’re not the only one who thinks the chances of Collins pulling a Nicholas Sparks on us are very high.
@Jia: Sigh. I would love to see Katniss get a truly HEA, rather than just being able to live. I guess we find out in a few weeks.
@Kathleen O’Reilly: @Jia: I have to laugh at this. I was going to comment the other day but decided to leave it to the fans. Here’s what I was going to say:
Can you tell I’m a Romance reader at heart? :D
@MaryK: You should read the trilogy no matter what. Even for a hard-core romance reader like moi, it rocks.
I don’t think she’ll punt on the ending. The stakes in the series are hugely high, and I don’t think she can short-shift the ending either. It doesn’t make sense that ALL the characters will survive, but she hasn’t disappointed me yet. It reminds me of how I felt going into Harry Potter VII.
I am soooooo Team Peeta!! <3
TEAM PEETA! Team Peeta all the way! Gale’s just, too…not right for Katniss. I love Gale, but I like him better with Madge. PEETA! <3
Team Peeta!!! I wouldn’t be totally devistated if Gale ended up with Katniss, but I would much rather have Peeta!
Peeta.
Definitely.
As a tool for stirring up interest, the giveaway thread is certainly doing a good job. My feedreader can’t keep up, but the comments that make it through are very interesting. Still, I’m going to wait for a spoiler review before I commit to the series. ;)
@Jennie: I agree with you. I think I’d go with Peeta at this point (I haven’t finished Catching Fire, so maybe everyone else knows something I don’t :) )
I think that she will either end up with Gale or Peeta and the other will die. She will not get to choose. I’m leaning towards Gale because then she will realize how much she did love Peeta.
I am all for Team Peeta, in the end.
I’m resistant to Team Gale because what Gale and Katniss had has changed because of the Games. I doubt Gale would be able to understand Katniss as well as Peeta does. Even though he tries.
It’s the distinct bonding Katniss & Peeta have as survivors. Gale has never been in that boat. And there’s something to be said for the desperate way Katniss reacts at the end of each book that seems far more genuine than her roleplay.
