The Search for the Next Joan Wilder Is Narrowed to Five
Borders and Gathers have narrowed down the thousands of aspiring romance writers to five entries. The manuscripts of the five hopefuls are in the hands of the judging panel. The winner will be announced on October 30, 2007, and then one more author will join the ranks of the swollen genre.
I think there should be a reality tv contest in which romance novel contestants have to not only write, but do it surrounded by rats and snakes with the prize to be rescued by a Michael Douglas, in his thirties, look alike and a Kathleen Turner makeover.
I laughed when I read the title of this post. I love Romancing the Stone and I especially love how they have her narrate them and how cheesy they make her novels out to be, even if it is totally poking fun at romance. But at the same time, they portray romance novels as universal because the fact that she writes those books gets them some help a time or two. Now I have to watch it again this weekend, especially so I can see the scene where Michael Douglas lands with his face in her lap. Ha!
“Juanita!!!”
Would it be Kathleen Turner also in her thirties? Or from her stint on FRIENDS as Chandler Bing’s father?
*shudder*
Make the prize be adopted by Brangelina, and maybe I’ll consider it.
