More Information on Sourcebooks “Discover New Love” Subscriptions and Store
I spoke with Deb Werksman to ask a few clarifying questions about Sourcebooks new venture, Discovery a New Love.
Will other publishers be included in this new subscription based site and bookstore?
Yes, other publishers are invited to participate and we are alreadyin talks with one NY publishing house.
Can a self published author be invited?
It would have be under special circumstances. Inquiries should come to me [Deb Werksman] directly.
Note from Jane: I got the impression that the important part of this subscription based service was to curate content for quality.
Response: Correct—we’re hearing from a lot of readers that there’s so much out there they don’t know how to weed through it all so the readers sticking with authors they already know but they want to find new authors.
How are authors being paid?
The reader is pre paying for 6 books. As soon as the book is selected, the author of the book gets the contractual royalty for an ebook sold per their original contract.
Will the other retailers’ promotional pricing cease?
No. We still plan to do our frontlist and themed ebook promotions. The goal of this new site is to be responsive to readers. The Discover New Love site is aimed at assisting readers discover new books and authors by presenting a narrower selection. If other readers prefer to watch for special pricingthrough different retailers, that’s fine.
Price after introductory price?
It will end sometime in the future and the regular price will be somewhat higher.
What will you do about international readers?
Every month’s featured selections will include books that are available all over the world. It may not be every single one, but there will be offerings every month for international readers.
Note from Jane: You can bank your credits so that if a book doesn’t interest you in month one, you can save your credit and use it later. I do this with my Audible account.
Don’t forget you can enter to win a free 6 month subscription to the new Sourcebooks’ subscription service. This giveaway is open until Saturday 10 PM CDT.

Thanks for clarifying Jane and asking the questions.
I would have signed up for the subscription, but being an international reader I would want full access of titles available for $9.99. I would be paying for a service at full price with a smaller (even if it’s not a very big difference) selection of titles.
Hmmm. I’m interested. I’ve been hearing more and more about these subscription services.

Thanks for the additional info. The fact youc an bank credits makes the deal more appealing.
@Lou:
I agree why are we international readers getting a lesser service for the same money?
I’d love to win this. [emailed removed by Jane. To enter, type the email in the box at the end of the post]
@Cindy: Cindy I entered your email for you.
@Merrian: Yeah, that doesn’t sit well with me. I love the idea of a subscription service, but it’s inevitable that geo restrictions are going to come into play. And for me, the bulk of my reading is by American authors.
@Merrian: My understanding is that Sourcebooks doesn’t own the world rights to all the books in their catalog.
A very interesting concept indeed. And a heck of a bargain too.
Interesting, I’d love to win a subscription to Discover a New Love.
Me too snailmail!
