Friday News: The Video Edition
Emily Axford Breaks Down Myths About Hymens and Virginity on Adam Ruins Everything – The day the Romance genre collectively dispels the myth of the hymen is the day peace, prosperity, freedom, and love rule the world. But, hey, we can dream, can’t we?
In less than 4 minutes, Emily Axford not only dispels a bunch of myths around the hymen with a helpful visual representation involving balloons and a marching band, but also comments on horrible health education, ridiculous representations in media (I trusted you Law and Order: SVU), and horrible, horrible ways that these myths find their way into legislation. – The Mary Sue
What Would Happen To You In A Sci-Fi Movie? – Not exactly a video, but definitely visual. I know that Buzzfeed is trying to become a more ‘serious’ news venue, but I really only trust the site for this kind of item. My very first try I got killed by an alien. You? – Buzzfeed
50 Shades of Grey competitive dance – Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking. But put all that aside and watch this dance between Kathrin Menninger and Vadim Garbuzov at the 2015 Professional Division World DanceSport Championship Showdance Standard in Vienna. It’s really quite beautiful, and Menninger is even blindfolded for part of it.
TV viewers have chosen the best Christmas advert of 2015 – and the winner is… – Warburtons v. Sainsbury’s, the muppets v. Mog and Emma Thompson. I’m actually kind of fond of this one. – The Telegraph
I love the Mog commercial but the Muppets one is brilliant as well.
Everything I know about the hymen I learned on Smart Bitches….
oh and I saved the Galaxy!!!!
The dancing championship video was awesome and they had chemistry. Way better than the cheesy movie.
This video has an agenda and is itself spreading erroneous information. I can understand the agenda, in view of the currrent cult about virginity in the USA, but spreading false information isn’t helpful. All it needs to debunk her pep talk is googling ” imperforate hymen” or watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB7c2oBEZNQ (not for the squeamish and not advised for watching at work). That video demonstrates what an intact, imperforate hymen looks like and what the consequences are. It’s a relatively rare condition, but it exists, as do quite many other forms which are not represented by her image of an arch.
The range spreads from a narrow band to imperforate, including hymens with one large hole, two or three holes, many small holes, a tiny opening and, as in the above video, no opening. A pronounced ring around the vaginal opening is at least as common as the referred-to arch. Any presentation other than a narrow arch or band around the vaginal opening may be bleeding upon first intercourse or first breach and that breach will be very likely painful.
