LOL…I went a little googly eyed at the second Twilight book, too. I never made it to book three because book two pissed me off so much. Absolutely boggles me that so much fanfic (popular enough to ptp) has been created from this mediocre series.
I haven’t read all of the Lucy Kincaid series, but generally Allison Brennan’s books stand fairly well on their own. Each trilogy has a meta-theme, then the trilogies interrelate, but you aren’t lost reading them out of order. What I’ve read of the Lucy books are a bit more intertwined since the whole series follows two main characters, but they could still be read alone and only lose minimal back story meta-theme.
When you said “original twilight” I thought you meant Camilla or Dracula. Ha! I’ll admit there were nuggets of good in it, but it wasn’t my thing. Have you listened to Alex Day read it on Youtube? It’s insanely funny.

RE: the Maisey Yates: Please tell me “Makhail Nabatov” is Belarussian or Ukrainian or some other nationality that might actually have a name “Makhail” instead of Mikhail butchered so the author can call him Mak.
Because nothing says Russian like Evan (you know, kind of like Ivan).
