Balogh’s Christmas novels always seem to have a slight edge of bitterness and melancholy, just enough to keep them from cloying, as many holiday books tend to do.
@hapax: That may be why I tend to like them!
I assume the CS Harris/St. Cyr series has been recommended before here, but I’ll second it for anyone who likes historical mysteries. Both the mystery parts and historical parts are well done, and the characters are rich and complex. The romantic elements are a bonus. I confess that I struggled a bit with the latest book but, as the series as a whole has been so solid, I’m hoping that was just a one off.
@cleo: It’s definitely one of the reasons I like them. My favorite is A Christmas Promise but Christmas Bride and Christmas Beau are also worth reading.
Sadly What Angels Fear isn’t on special for me. Will see if I can borrow it from the library – at NZD 17.79 it is just too expensive!
Seduced by Molly O’Keefe is free on Amazon. Haven’t read it but I know there are lots of O’Keefe fans on DA – it’s her first historical western and it’s the first in a series.
