DAILY DEALS: Old London and modern countrysides
An Unnatural Vice by KJ Charles $ 1.99
From the Jacket Copy:
In the sordid streets of Victorian London, unwanted desire flares between two bitter enemies brought together by a deadly secret.
Crusading journalist Nathaniel Roy is determined to expose spiritualists who exploit the grief of bereaved and vulnerable people. First on his list is the so-called Seer of London, Justin Lazarus. Nathaniel expects him to be a cheap, heartless fraud. He doesn’t expect to meet a man with a sinful smile and the eyes of a fallen angel—or that a shameless swindler will spark his desires for the first time in years.
Justin feels no remorse for the lies he spins during his séances. His gullible clients simply bore him. Hostile, disbelieving, utterly irresistible Nathaniel is a fascinating challenge. And as their battle of wills and wits heats up, Justin finds he can’t stop thinking about the man who’s determined to ruin him.
But Justin and Nathaniel are linked by more than their fast-growing obsession with one another. They are both caught up in an aristocratic family’s secrets, and Justin holds information that could be lethal. As killers, fanatics, and fog close in, Nathaniel is the only man Justin can trust—and, perhaps, the only man he could love.

Am I the only one who gets irritated by mistakes such as Henry Stokeley being in line for a title? Lady Stokeley is a courtesy title, the actual title would have gone to Henry when her husband died.
Seriously, Talon? I try to picture a mother with a newborn in her arms, saying, Let’s call him Talon (or Brick or Steel or some other building material) & it’s so ludicrous that I can’t bring myself to read the actual book.
Milk Porn? I remember reading a short story years (decades) ago by Anne Rice. Most of the details are long forgotten, but mute cow-women were kept in a stable and bred by a bull-man. I remember being horrified because they would cut the babies tongues out so they wouldn’t be able to speak. I think the hero (not from around there) actually stole a baby and left the planet, before they could cut her tongue out.
@Flora: From reading some of Jayne’s review, I think Henry is just the current heir — in line for the title, which went to an elder male relative upon the death of Lady Stokeley’s late husband.
@hng23: So with you on Talon. Maybe in a PNR.
I enjoyed the KJ Charles – it’s 2nd in a trilogy and while the romance is standalone, there’s an overarching mystery/suspense plot that should be read in order. And FYI, there’s some intense violence – just a couple scenes.
