Both become a habit, almost an addiction, that’s hard to break even with the people closest to you, out of the business. For example, they say never trust a woman who tells you her age; if she can’t keep that secret, she can’t keep yours. I’m fifty-nine.”

But the past intervenes when a man named Floyd Lynch confesses to the worst unsolved case of Brigid’s career—the disappearance and presumed murder of her young protégée, Jessica. Floyd knows things about that terrible night that were never body in return for a plea bargain.
It should finally be the end of a dark chapter in Brigid’s life. Except…the new FBI agent on the case, Laura Coleman, thinks the confession is fake, and Brigid finds she cannot walk away from violence and retribution after all, no matter what the cost.

Love Is A Battlefield (Jack & Pepper)
Don’t Walk Away (Dean & Emma)
Gotta say I did not like Shattered Secrets at all. Thought the dialogue was wooden, the plot was convoluted, the romance was lackluster and tension-less, and I certainly didn’t think the characters were that likeable. YMMV I suppose.
“some of the story line was familiar”
You can say that again. I was mildly intrigued by this deal, but thought “Haven’t I read this already?” Upon scouring my mental bookshelves, I realized that no, I haven’t, but I *have* read at least three other books that would nearly match this blurb.
I really enjoyed Rage Against the Dying. I listened to it on audio not long after it came out based on a suggestion from a friend.
Us by David Nicholls is on sale at Amazon at least for $2.99. It’s not a romance but it explores the relationship of a family during their version of a ‘grand tour’ (it’s modern day but they come up with the idea to have a family trip through Europe to visit art galleries). It was one of my favorite books of last year.
@CelineB: Was there much by way of romance in Rage Against the Dying Celine? Or would you describe the book as straight up suspense/crime thriller?
I cannot find words for how much I enjoyed All Fired Up — this is forever going to be the Tequila Shots Foreplay book for me, and I don’t usually remember specific scenes from books very well (I may have re-read this book several times for that scene). I also really like the concept of “Ex Military manly dudes decide to form a business and become… romantic date planners?”. It’s great.
Otherwise it’s actually a super sweet story, it’s funny, it’s cute, there’s a touch of suspense, they Use Their Words to avoid a Big Misunderstanding, and the characters are pretty adorable. There’s an m/f/m scene, which may put some people off, but it’s probably one of my favourite books from last year.
This is a lot of words for yes click buy yes good! #2 is pretty fantastic too.
