They are lovers on opposite sides of a brutal war, with everything at stake and no possibility of retreat. They can trust no one—especially not each other.
Major Lord Peter Tremayne is the last man rebel bluestocking Kate Grey should fall in love with, but when the handsome British viscount commandeers her home, Kate throws caution to the wind and responds to his seduction. She is on the verge of surrender when a spy in her own household seizes the opportunity to steal the military dispatches Tremayne carries, ensuring his disgrace—and implicating Kate in high treason. Painfully awakened to the risks of war, Kate determines to put duty ahead of desire, and offers General Washington her services as an undercover agent in the City of Brotherly Love.
Months later, having narrowly escaped court martial and hanging, Tremayne returns to decadent, British-occupied Philadelphia with no stomach for his current assignment—to capture the woman he believes betrayed him. Nor does he relish the glittering entertainments being held for General Howe’s idle officers. Worse, the glamorous woman in the midst of this social whirl, the fiancée of his own dissolute cousin, is none other than Kate Grey herself. And so begins their dangerous dance, between passion and patriotism, between certain death and the promise of a brave new future together.

The beloved New York Times bestseller—with more than five million copies sold—by the author of One Plus One and The Girl You Left Behind
They had nothing in common until love gave them everything to lose . . .
Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.
Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.
A Love Story for this generation, Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn’t have less in common—a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?
The stunning sequel, After You, will be published on 9/29 by Pamela Dorman Books/Viking.
A Girl Named Digit by Annabel Monaghan $ 2.99
From the Jacket Copy:
Farrah “Digit” Higgins may be going to MIT in the fall, but this L.A. high school genius has left her geek self behind in another school district so she can blend in with the popular crowd at Santa Monica High and actually enjoy her senior year. But when Farrah, the daughter of a UCLA math professor, unknowingly cracks a terrorist group’s number sequence, her laid-back senior year gets a lot more interesting. Soon she is personally investigating the case, on the run from terrorists, and faking her own kidnapping– all while trying to convince a young, hot FBI agent to take her seriously. So much for blending in . . .
I love The Turncoat and her subsequent novels.
Jane, I love ya but I find the use of the term “Girl” in the post header to be patronizing.
Glamorous Illusions is $0.00 right now at Amazon (so you can get the first in the series for free, and the second for a discount).
With just a few misgivings, I enjoyed A Girl Named Digit. Definitely worth checking out for the price. (Anyone who is enjoying Rosie Claverton’s books will likely enjoy this one, too, I think.) There’s a sequel that I own but will probably take a pass on since I think it goes in a direction that won’t please me. Maybe better to stop while I’m ahead.
@Avierra: Book 3 in the series, Glittering Promises is also on sale for $2.99
@Jayne:
I guess I tend to use the term “girl” affectionately without any disrespect. Perhaps it depends on the circumstances- kind of tongue-in-cheek?
The Turncoat is wonderful, and I just finished the next one, The Rebel Pirate, which I loved.
Another rec for The Turncoat here! It’s amazing what they don’t teach about the revolutionary war in school. This book made me want to know more about that time period and why some chose to rebel and some chose to remain loyal to the crown. My husband and I watched the first season of Turn on AMC and really enjoyed it as well.
I thought somebody died in this Moyes book. I’m pretty sure I heard it was sad.
@MaryK: Yeah, Me Before You is like anti-romance! So not for me. LOL
@LeeF: Maybe it is tongue-in-cheek but I’ve read The Turncoat and that heroine is 18 and the cover of the second book has a woman who certainly doesn’t look like she’s prepubescent. I just can’t help but look at the header and gender flip the word to “boy” and get a whole different idea of the age of the supposed hero/MC of the book.
@Kaetrin: It may’ve been you I heard it from! I lurk on goodreads in order to hear such things.
If I were to try to gender flip the title, my first thought would be “A guy detective, a guy spy, a long-suffering guy…” which to me reads similarly as a young but not necessarily prepubescent protagonist.
@MaryK: I got very detailed spoilers from various friends because there were a few urging me to read it. And, once I found out what happens in the end, I ran away fast! LOL
