DAILY DEALS: Friends and partners to lovers
Sincerely Carter by Whitney G $ FREE
From the Jacket Copy:
Just friends.
We’re just friends.
No, really. She’s just my best friend…
Arizona Turner has been my best friend since fourth grade, even when we “hated” each other. We’ve been there for one another through first kisses, first “times,” and we’ve been each other’s constant when good relationships turned bad. (We even went to colleges that were minutes away from each other…)
Throughout the years, and despite what anyone says, we’ve never crossed the line.
Never thought about it.
Never wanted to.
Until one night changed everything.
At least, it should’ve …
Just friends.
We’re just friends.
I’m only saying this until I figure out if she’s still “just” my best friend…
Revenger by Alastair Reynolds $ 2.99
From the Jacket Copy:
Revenger is a rocket-fueled tale of space pirates, buried treasure, and phantom weapons, of unspeakable hazards and single-minded heroism… and of vengeance…
Adrana and Fura Ness are the newest crew members of the legendary Captain Rackamore’s ship, using their mysterious powers as Bone Readers to find clues about their next score. But there might be more waiting for them in space than adventure and fortune: the fabled and feared Bosa Sennen, in particular.
The galaxy is filled with treasures… if you have the courage to find them.
Distracting the Duke by Elizabeth Keysian $ 0.99
From the Jacket Copy:
Devonshire, England, 1820
Determined to avoid the strife-filled marriage of his parents, Marcus, the Duke of Ulvercombe, wants an amenable, biddable wife, and has set his cap for a certain pretty miss. Unfortunately, her vastly opinionated, frustrating, and lamentably beautiful guardian, Lady Clara Tinniswood, keeps distracting him, tempting him to consider a far more tempestuous—and passionate—union.
Recently widowed Lady Clara Tinniswood wants only to organize a quiet new life for herself, beyond the control of any man. But one shockingly unguarded moment while confronted by Marcus’s gloriously naked body catapults her headlong into a forbidden passion and threatens to undermine all her well-laid plans.
Even if Marcus abandons his sweet ideal and surrenders to his growing desire for Clara, there’s one unalterable issue which could destroy their hopes forever…
Wheels Up by Annabeth Albert $ 1.99
From the Jacket Copy:
Their love is forbidden, but their hearts aren’t listening to rules and regulations…
Lieutenant Dustin Strauss is a reformed man. No longer a twentysomething hell-raiser, he’s his SEAL team’s new XO—and a man with a secret. Or seven. He’s kept his bisexual identity under wraps for years, along with his kinky side and a fondness for the military-themed semianonymous hookup website Joe4Joe. His latest chat buddy is more than a sexy online distraction—they’re taking their very not-safe-for-work relationship into real time.
Petty Officer Wes Lowe has a smart mouth, a take-charge attitude and an uncanny ability for making things go boom. The life of an enlisted man isn’t always enough to satisfy him, but one wild, no-questions-asked weekend with his online love comes close. When a transfer order comes in, Wes feels ready and centered. He’ll make a good impression on his new SEAL team and keep his growing feelings for Dustin on the down low.
But as they log more time online and some very real emotions surface, Dustin and Wes struggle to pretend they’re just a harmless fling. And when his commander introduces Dustin to his team’s newest member, they’re in for the shock of a lifetime…and a crushing disappointment: their difference in ranks means even a friendship without sexual contact could end their navy careers for good.
With their hearts on the line, Dustin and Wes may not survive their next mission, let alone find a way toward a future together.

I wanted to let you know about a new release by a debut author. It’s on sale for $.99 through Sunday. I got an ARC and I’m only a third of the way through it, but so far I can say that the writing is strong. It’s romantic suspense, with initially more focus on the suspense, as I’m not yet sure who the love interest is. From the press release:
Follow a young woman as she flees an abusive relationship for a fresh start in Dallas in “Becker Circle,” a new romantic suspense novel by debut author Addison Brae releasing March 14, 2018.
New Harvard degree. New CPA job. With so much to experience and a giant past to forget, it’s Gillian’s fresh start across the country in Dallas. Her sense of humor and best friend help her maintain her self-respect when most every jerk in the urban community hits on her. She never dreamed trying to meet new people could threaten her dignity and her life.

I read Annabeth Albert for good, tropey m/m romance (but not particularly for insights into what it’s like to be queer in the US). At her best, she writes emotionally satisfying romances set in a slightly reality adjacent universe. But this is not her best, imo. Wheels Up was my least favorite book in this series – there’s a lot of “we can’t be together but I can’t quit you” type angsting without enough emotional development for me to really buy into their relationship or care what happened.
