Breathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally. $ 1.99
From the Jacket Copy:
From the bestselling author of Catching Jordan comes a brand new contemporary YA you won’t forget.
The finish line is only the beginning…
Annie hates running. No matter how far she jogs, she can’t escape the guilt that if she hadn’t broken up with Kyle, he might still be alive. So to honor his memory, she starts preparing for the marathon he intended to race.
But the training is even more grueling than Annie could have imagined. Despite her coaching, she’s at war with her body, her mind-and her heart. With every mile that athletic Jeremiah cheers her on, she grows more conflicted. She wants to run into his arms…and sprint in the opposite direction. For Annie, opening up to love again may be even more of a challenge than crossing the finish line.
“Breathe, Annie, Breathe is an emotional, heartfelt, and beautiful story about finding yourself after loss and learning to love. It gave me so many feels. Her best book yet.” — Jennifer L. Armentrout, New York Times bestselling author of Wait for You
My main criticisms are that I wasn’t as invested in Annie’s relationship with Jere, and I wonder if the book might have benefited from his point of view. I also felt that Annie’s voice was a bit similar to that of a number of your past heroines. This is understandable given the similar ages and sometimes life circumstances, but I think she could have been made a bit more distinctive in this regard.
Breathe, Annie, Breathe is part of the Hundred Oaks series, set at and around the same school, but the books take place over a span of several years and past characters don’t show up unless there’s a reason for them to be part of the story – like Annie’s coach Matt and her friends Vanessa and Savannah. So while it is not the first in a series, I think new readers could jump in with this one or any of your past books and not feel lost.’

The Man with the Golden Torc by Simon R. Green. $ 1.99.
From the Jacket Copy:
For ages, Eddie Drood and his family have kept humanity safe from the things that go bump in the night. But now one of his own has convinced the rest of the family that Eddie’s become a menace, and that humanity needs to be protected from him. So he’s on the run, using every trick in the book, magical and otherwise, hoping he lives long enough to prove his innocence…
I was not one who recognized that the title was a pun on a James Bond book.
Hmm, I thought The Man with the Golden Torc was a reference to The Man with the Golden Arm – Frank Sinatra movie, Nelson Algren about a heroin addict.
@cleo: that’s Nelson Algen *book* (argh)
Zoe York’s “A Viking’s Peace” was recommended a while ago in the comments when the daily deals convo turned to SFR and I added it to my wishlist then – and now it’s on sale for $0.99 :)
@AMK: Viking’s in space! Getting it.
I bought The Fresh Egg Cookbook on sale a couple of months ago and I love it. It has lots of great egg recipes (most of which are suitable for vegetarians), but it also has information and stories about raising chickens in the ‘burbs. After reading it, I really wanted to raise my own chickens!
Sarina Bowen’s The Year We Fell Down (The Ivy Years Book 1) is currently free to Kindle readers.
Simon Green is a solid writer. I enjoyed The Man with the Golden Torc, once you read the book you pick up on the James Bond theme.
