“Fresh. Fascinating. Unforgettable. The Butterfl y andthe Violin is a masterpiece of a debut.” —Laura Frantz, author of Love’sReckoning
“. . .impossible to put down.” —RT Book Reviews, 4 1/2 Stars, TOPPICK!
A Mysterious painting breathes hope and beauty into the darkest corners of Auschwitz—and the loneliest hearts of Manhattan.
Manhattan art dealer Sera James watched her world crumble at the altar two years ago, and her heart is still fragile. Her desire for distraction reignites a passion for a mysterious portrait she first saw as a young girl—a painting of a young violinist with piercing blue eyes.
In her search for the painting, Sera crosses paths with William Hanover—the grandson of a wealthy California real estate mogul—who maybe the key to uncovering the hidden masterpiece. Together Sera and William slowly unravel the story behind the painting’s subject: Austrian violinist Adele Von Bron.
A darling of the Austrian aristocracy of 1942, talented violinist, and daughter to a high-ranking member of the Third Reich, Adele risks everything when she begins smuggling Jews out of Vienna. In a heartbeat, her life of prosperity and privilege dissolves into a world of starvation and barbed wire.
As Sera untangles the secrets behind the painting, she finds beauty in the most unlikely of places: the grim camps of Auschwitz and the inner recesses of her own troubled heart.

An “exuberant” (El Mundo) debut novel of a family bound by searing passions, an earthy magic, and a very unusual curse
The Laguna women suffer from an odd affliction: each generation is condemned to tragic love affairs and to give birth only to girls who are unable to escape the cruel fate of their mothers. One fateful hunting season in their small Castilian town, a young landowner arrives and begins a passionate affair with Clara Laguna, the latest in the family line, daughter of a one-eyed woman known as “the Laguna witch.” He leaves her pregnant with yet another daughter, but the seeds of change are sown. Eventually the long-awaited son—Santiago, the great-great grandson of Clara—is born. A window of hope is opened, but is the curse truly over?
Introducing a cast of memorable, eccentric characters from a bearded, mute female cook to the local do-gooding priest and the indelible Laguna women themselves, The House of Impossible Loves is a feat of imaginative storytelling that marks the arrival of a talented new novelist.

Two rules, that’s all Graham has—never apologize and never fall in love. He knows Carly is everything he should avoid. Cheerful and sweet, she has “relationship” written all over her. But Graham can’t stay away from her probing questions and concerned blue eyes.
When Graham discovers Carly is hiding a crushing secret, he’s prepared to risk it all. Until in one single moment, everything changes and Graham’s past threatens to collide with his future. His life is crumbling down around him, and soon no apology in the world can save him.
He should’ve known to walk away.
91,000 words
This is an angsty story, because neither Graham or Carly’s history is pretty. But it’s a story of overcoming the horrible and living again. It was well done and had me stuck to my sofa from start to finish”
That sewing one is a wonderful title.
Bite Me by Shelly Laurenston is currently free right now at Barnes and Noble. It’s campy shapeshifter romance, between a honey badger (Yes! HONEY BADGER) and a bear-tiger hybrid. I’ve read it probably four times in the last year since it came out…
Warning on that “Bite Me by Shelly Laurenston is currently free” tip: I started to buy it, however before I confirmed the buy, I read that it’s a “sneak preview” of the first 5 chapters only. Thanks anyway, Lauren.
Gah. Not only is Miss Scarlet’s School not free in the UK, it’s not available at all on kindle. I thought we’d got past the nonsense of geographical restrictions, but apparently not.
