Daily Deals: A 99c book I’d recommend, a few contemps, and a Chinese set thriller
Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley. $ .99

Too hot to handle . . .
Tabitha Allen grew up in the thick of Chaos-the Chaos Motorcycle Club, that is. Her father is Chaos’ leader, and the club has always had her back. But one rider was different from the start. When Tabby was running wild, Shy Cage was there. When tragedy tore her life apart, he helped her piece it back together. And now, Tabby’s thinking about much more than friendship . . .
Tabby is everything Shy’s ever wanted, but everything he thinks he can’t have. She’s beautiful, smart, and as his friend’s daughter, untouchable. Shy never expected more than friendship, so when Tabby indicates she wants more-much more-he feels like the luckiest man alive. But even lucky men can crash and burn . . .
105,000 words
I think it is a good book for newcomers. If a reader was curious about the series but reluctant to delve into the self published pile, this book presents tighter prose but still delivers the same delicious Ashley romance. The Chaos MC club is an important part of the story and new people are introduced but older characters are included only to the extent that they play an important role in either Tab and Shy’s romance or set up for future books. Isn’t my favorite Ashley book but it’s a very solid addition to the backlist. B

Iraq War vet Ellie McEnroe has a pretty good life in Beijing, representing the work of controversial dissident Chinese artist Zhang Jianli. Even though Zhang’s mysterious disappearance of over a year ago has her in the sights of the Chinese authorities. Even though her Born-Again mother has come for a visit and shows no signs of leaving. But when her mom takes up with “that nice Mr. Zhou next door,” Ellie decides that it’s time to get out of town—given her mother’s past bad choices of men, no good can come of this.
An old Army buddy, Dog Turner, gives her the perfect excuse. His unstable brother Jason has disappeared in picturesque Yangshuo, a famous tourist destination, and though Ellie knows it’s a long shot, she agrees to try to find him. At worst, she figures she’ll have a few days of fun in some gorgeous scenery.
But her plans for a relaxing vacation are immediately complicated when her mother and the new boyfriend tag along. And as soon as she starts asking questions about the missing Jason, Ellie realizes that she’s stumbled into a dangerous conspiracy that may or may not involve a sinister biotech company, eco-terrorists, an art-obsessed Chinese billionaire and lots of cats—one that will take her on a wild chase through some of China’s most beautiful—and most surreal—places.

Book 2:
Worth The Drive
All Katie ever wanted was a baby. Be careful what you wish for.
Katie Lipton is the town beauty, but that never got her what she wanted most—a baby. And, oh yeah, a faithful husband would have been nice, too.
Reeling from her husband’s cheating and desertion, Katie embarks on a one-night fling with professional golfer Darío Luna. Never could she have imagined that one night with Darío would give her something fifteen years of marriage couldn’t—morning sickness.
Darío was raised without a father, and he has no intention of the same fate befalling his child. He’s still not sure about Katie, though. Did she trick him? Lie to him? But his feelings for her, and this crazy attraction he feels, soon has him putting his doubts aside to spend more time with her. He tells himself it’s for the sake of the baby. Yeah. Right.
Agreeing to try to work out some sort of relationship before the baby is due, Katie travels with Darío to his golf tournaments, walking the course with him by day…and giving in to their attraction by night. But will it be enough?

For UK readers, Amazon UK has the first two books in Catherynne Valente’s brilliant and wonderful Fairyland series for .99. The novella, The Girl Who Ruled Fairyland–For a Little While, is .38. These books are for all the smart, brave girls who want adventures.
Hour of the Rat is now 1.99 USD at Amazon and BN.
I’ve noticed this week that Kirsten Ashley’s Rock Chick is on sale at Amazon for $.99. Do you know if it will ever end up at B&N Nook for the same price?
Also will the Kindle App work on a Nook Color so I can take advantage of some of these books that never seem to make it to B&N?
@Glittergirl: Good news–Rock Chick is on sale at BN for $0.99
@Darlynne: Thanks Darlynne! That is a truly excellent deal.
Hour of the Rat seems like something I would enjoy, but its not available at iTunes aust, I checked book depository and only the hardback is mentioned(26 dollars, eek). Also checked Sony, it’s not there but her other books are nearly 10 dollars so eek again. Her website makes no mention of ebooks, that I can see, though I just put eye drops in, so it is possible I missed something :) long story short I don’t think I will be getting this one.
Btw, I think HOTR is second in a series.
@Jo: HOTR is the second in a series. Rock Paper Tiger is the first. I’ll be buying HOTR as I greatly enjoyed RPT. I’m really sorry that they don’t appear to be available to you in any format at a reasonable price.
Jane- Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
@Glittergirl – Not on the Nook Color unless you want to root it. I know with the newer Nook tablets, Google Play is available to them and you can access the Amazon App through Google Play.
These promos definitely work. I’d managed to resist Kristen Ashley titles so far, but I feel comfortable taking a chance at .99.
Sometimes I’m actually glad that the specials aren’t always available to me. I was tempted by the Kenyon books (I have most of them in print but am missing a few) even though I have been barely reading PNR but as the books are not on special for me it was a no brainer in the end and I saved my money.
I so had to get the $1.99 deal for the Dark Hunter books lol I have always procrastinated in getting this series because of the length but I couldn’t resist this sale LOL
RG Alexander’s FOUR FOR CHRISTMAS is free on Amazon through Friday (I guess it’ll be her last Kindle freebie for a while)…
