Landline by Rainbow Rowell $ 2.99
From the Jacket Copy:
From New York Times bestselling author of Eleanor & Park and Fangirl, Rainbow Rowell, comes a hilarious, heart-wrenching take on love, marriage, and magic phones.
Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply-but that almost seems beside the point now.
Maybe that was always beside the point.
Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her-Neal is always a little upset with Georgie-but she doesn’t expect to him to pack up the kids and go without her.
When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.
That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts. . . .
Is that what she’s supposed to do?
Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?
Rats! I’m not eligible for the credit. :(
Not sure what the requirements are though. It doesn’t seem to say anywhere.
To be eligible for the $3, you have to be physically located in the USA, Lostshadows.
I’m in the US and not eligible, either. The “we missed you” and “Jump back into reading” makes me wonder if you need to have not shopped at Amazon for a certain period of time to qualify.
I’m also in the US and not eligible. Alas.
Another one in the US and not eligible.
In the US and not eligible.
@CateNow, I had the same thought.
I just purchased a book 5 minutes before I clicked on the link, I’m in the US, and they said I got the credit. Weird!
It worked for me…I signed in through my phone.
Off to grab another Toni Anderson with it…
Thanks. I’m in the US and I was able to use it. I tend to use my Nook more, so I don’t purchase a lot on Kindle. That must be why it worked.
I buy books almost daily plus had a large Apple refund. I didn’t expect to be eligible, but I was. I did sign in on my Fire, but I buy books from it too. Oh and I am in the States.
Can’t explain it but I’ll take it. :-). Thanks Jane.
I clicked a link for the offer via Twitter last night and was told I was ineligible. Happily today using the link above it went through without a hitch for me. Perhaps trying later will yield better results for others?
I don’t think this was posted, but Make-Believe Wedding by Sarah Mayberry is free on Nook & Kindle.
@Monique D: I’m in NJ.
Amazon had this same offer a couple weeks ago, but no one in customer service knew about it. A lot of customers were frustrated by the inconsistencies in eligibility, so I’m glad it’s worked for some readers, however inexplicably.
I just chatted with Amazon and was told it is only available for select customers, but they have no idea which ones.
@Lostshadows: The offer says “We’ve missed you!” so maybe it’s customers whose accounts have been inactive for a while?
Warning for Lily and the Octopus – a guy mentioned it at our book club, he loved it but said it was wrenchingly sad, and yes I believe it is because the dog dies if that is one of your triggers.
I was able to use it yesterday and I buy Kindle books virtually every other day.
@Sarah: I am also a frequent buyer, so Amazon was welcoming me back since yesterday with the offer.
Amazon doesn’t miss me :( Oh well.
How can Amazon not love me and want to give me this credit? I have to think I’m one of their better customers. Now I’m sad.
I also signed in on my Kindle Fire and got the credit…I’m not a Prime member, so maybe that has something to do with it? Either way, I’ll happily take it!
Thanks Jane.
I don’t think Amazon was worried about welcoming me back since yesterday (lol), so I wasn’t eligible. I may try again later just to doublecheck if they’ve missed me by then. But I did forward it to some people who aren’t compulsive book buyers to see if it’ll work for them. Thx.
I have Prime and I bought 5 books this morning before this was posted. I still was able to get the credit. I have no clue what it takes to qualify, but I’m glad I did. Thanks for posting it!
Thanks for the Amazon credit link! I’m not sure why I qualified, or why they missed me so much. I’m in the USA, I’m a Prime member, and there aren’t too many weeks I don’t order or preorder something from Amazon. I own a Kindle Paper White 3G and an Amazon Fire Stick. I wonder if that’s the trick to getting the credit?
Haven’t read Landline, but I’m a huge fan of Eleanor & Park. I want to say it astonished me, but that sounds dumb. But it did astonish me. One-click *that* one, whatever the price (or get print copy and flip pages reverently).
The link popped up in my Facebook feed last night. I pondered a while, thinking it might be a scam, but finally clicked on it and voila!, I picked up a free book from my book wishlist.
Kiss the Girl by Susan Sey is free on Amazon. I haven’t read it but I just realized that I kind of know the author – we went to summer camp together.
