REVIEW: Sony Reader for $59.95 including Shipping and Tax
There is a little known but completely valid way to get a Sony Reader for under $60.00 including shipping and tax. I got one and so did Miki, a reader here at DearAuthor. So did many others at MobileRead forum. I forgot to mention it on Sunday with all my ranting on and on about the evil digital masters at Penguin.
In order to get this deal, you sign up for a Sony Rewards card. It takes about two weeks to get the card and after you get the card, you sign up at Sony Rewards. You do a couple of shenanigans outlined at MobileRead, pay for the Sony Reader with your Sony Rewards card and for the tune of $59.95, the Sony Reader gets shipped to your house in about two weeks.
These may be refurbished units, I don’t know, but it looks the same as my original one and works just as well. If you do buy one, you might want to hack it like I did.
Oooh thanks for the info. I might actually try it. :D
Is the deal only for the US?
Okay, I just checked out the terms on the Sony site. Only for US residents. *sigh*
Hmm, tempting, but I’m not unhappy with my Ebookwise and it has a backlight ;) Plus, I’m pretty sure I don’t need another credit card, lol. But still, it’s tempting to get a new toy just because.
You can cancel the CC after you pay for the item. That is what I did.
So this is how you got yours the first time? And stop tormenting me. You’re already a bad influence, my husband will start using your name as a cuss word soon ;)
No, I bought the thing for the full retail price, but we recently bought a second one with the CC deal.
Ohh, so Ned has one now? You really do like it then. Hm. *thinking*
Sony card’s how I got mine, but I’d already had the card and used points to cover the whole thing. If you like Sony products, it’s a nice card to have.
Angie, with your ebookwise, can you download from any ebook site or does it have to be exclusively their books?
No, I download any content from anywhere. As long as it’s in RTF or HTML format (I think it also recognizes TXT and DOC), the Ebookwise Librarian software converts it for me.
Augh! Now I want one!
I hate having to buy 2 gadgets though. Surely Sony’s working on a front-lit version….
I know, I know, they’ll put out a front-lit version that drains the battery too fast, which will be fixed in the next version, which will have a different hitch in its gallop, which will be fixed in the next….
Thanks Jane! The price is the only thing that has kept me from buying one of these! This fixes that problem.
Is that a credit card? Because even to save $200+ I don’t need to complicated my life with another credit card…
Me neither… sigh… and I really want one, too. :(
That’s why you get it, pay it off immediately and cancel it. :) Just an idea.
