eBook Device Deals
Today only, Walmart is selling $50 iTunes gift cards for $35. There is a limit of 2 per person. I bought mine in the electronics department and I had to ask for them. This is an in store promotion only.
Barnes and Noble is selling refurbished 3G nooks on eBay with free shipping. Yesterday the price was $99 and today its $119. Remember that if you buy BN epub books, these will only work with the nook.
Buy.com is offering a Pink Sony Reader Pocket with touchscreen technology and a pink case for $159.00.
The Exclusive Pink Ribbon Bundle features a Reader Pocket Editionâ„¢ bundle benefitting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Includes the Reader Pocket Edition in pink, a limited edition Pink Ribbon cover, and coupon code for 2 eBooks downloads from the Readerâ„¢ Store.
Have an old eReader? You can trade it in for up to $75 toward a new Sony eReader. There are reports that it will accept almost any old eReader and still give you $75.
Black Friday circulars are being leaked and released. Hopefully next Sunday, I’ll have a full report of the ebook related specials and a holiday purchasing guide. A few that we know of now include:
- Kohls: The Sharper Image Literati eBook reader: $99.99
- Macys: The Sharper Image Literati eBook reader: $129.99
- Sears: http://bfads.net/Sears-Black-Friday-Libre-eBook-Reader-PRO-Black-Aluratek-Link: $89
- CVS: Lookbook wireless reader: $118.88
Is Sony doing this in Canada too? Does anyone know? I sent an email to Sony Canada but I thought I would see if anyone else knew already.
Jane, I ran to our Walmart this morning (love that extra hour until I can’t stay awake tonight). The electronics department had scads of the cards and no limit. Also, the signage indicated that this deal is good through tomorrow, the 8th. Anyone in Reno, stop by and get your fill.
I hope the new Sony Touch will be on sale somewhere. Borders had a deal a few weeks ago where if you buy one in store you got the cover with the light for free, but my local store didnt have them and neither did the one I went to while in Vegas :( Plus the red ones were available on-line only (and so not subject to the promotion) and I really want the red one :P
I don’t expect the price to be any less, but a “get these gift cards” or a free cover would be nice. Not that I would turn down an actual money-off sale.
Scored two iTunes cards! Had to hunt them down on the end of a random aisle and didn’t notice a sign, but the clerk knew about the sale when I checked out. Thanks!
Not huge but Barnes and Noble is running a deal to buy $100 worth of gift cards and get a $10 eGift card.
Its on their website.
Sigh. Of course there are deals. I just pre-ordered the Nook Color. But thanks for sharing.

Hmmm…I just bought the Pandigital @ Kohls because it was inexpensive $133 inc tax, and then a $15 manufacturer’s rebate. Seeing the refurb 3g Nooks, though, makes me think twice about the Pandigital. It’s the whole color vs. e-ink thing, and which is really going to be best overall for what I want to do with it. The Nook has 3G but the Pandigital (with only wifi) can be hacked to run Android and therefore alot of other apps.
This might not be the best place for this comment but since someone mentioned colour e-readers, I just saw this article (in French) this morning (http://technaute.cyberpresse.ca/nouvelles/produits-electroniques/201011/08/01-4340391-les-liseuses-numeriques-passent-a-la-couleur.php?utm_categorieinterne=trafficdrivers&utm_contenuinterne=cyberpresse_boitePourAccueilCbp_10209_accueil_POS2). Basically it states that Hanvon, a Chinese company will present a coloured e-ink reading device at the 2010 FPD International event in Tokyo. Unfortunately, there’s no other information on the device, nor a release date.
FWIW, I went to two different Wal-Marts asking about the iTunes deal and received only blank looks.
Of course, that’s what I get when I ask about ANYTHING at Wal-Mart — reason #527 I don’t usually shop there.
Borders.com is also running a special this week on gift cards… buy a $50.00 gift card (or 2 $25 gift cards) and get a $10 gift card free. Says it’s eligible for free shipping, so even though it’s an online order it looks the cards are mailed to you.
Books-a-Million is selling the color Nook, now. Weird.
Update – Sony ereader trade in is only offered in the USA.
I recycled a broke K2. Rec’d an email stating amt was $130. Had to go to the Sony Style store to get them to honor the amount. Great CS at the store (not on the phone. So I picked up a Daily Edition for $119.
