REVIEW: A Catch of Consequence by Diana Norman
Dear Mrs. Norman,
Some reviews might lead readers to think this book is dry, historical fiction. But I feel those reviewers would be doing readers a disservice. These characters came alive for me. The times and places seemed real. Your descriptions are so deft that for a day I was back in the 18th century of Boston, London, Hertfordshire and Northumberland. Your writing is fantastic and one gets a lesson in history without being aware of it.
But…this book won’t be for everyone. It’s not a true romance and though it has a happy ending, there is heartbreak and tragedy on the way.
Characters one has come to love will die. Others aren’t always good, or perceptive and some make mistakes. The smart ones learn from them even if one wants to still shake them at times. They are real people. One sees what 18th century business women were up against, what the poor and dispossessed had to fight, that right doesn’t always lead to justice.
Several reviewers mentioned that if readers like Dorothy Dunnett, Philippa Gregory and other authors like them, then they might want to try your books. I know in this book you’ve created a marvelous, plain spoken American heroine who goes from rags to riches to rags to final self knowledge. A-

I love Diana Norman. The Vizard Mask is my absolute favorite by her along with Blood Royal and then A Catch of Consequence, etc. Love her.
I have both those books and need to pull them out and actually read them instead of just stroking the covers and being happy I own copies.
Keishon, did you ever get any response to the letters you wrote to her?
I guess as long as she’s writing books instead, I can live with no website for her.
I knew Keishon would be the first to comment, being a Diane Norman fangirl. I have to admit, I’ve never read her books, but between Keishon’s past comments and this review, I definietly have to give her a try.

LOL, you and me both Tara! Norman is more historical fiction than romance though there has been a romantic element in all of her books. Well, maybe not in KING OF THE LAST DAYS. You do have to wait til the end of the book for most of the romantic payoff but I think her writing, characters and plot make it worth the wait.
No comment from her and I did give her my email address. I think her US publisher would have to forward them to her, I guess, since homebase is in the UK. Hopefully after the publication of her book, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she’ll email me back. I really wish she would establish a website. I’m thrilled silly that she has another book coming out. Will definately let you know if I ever hear from her.
LOL, Tara! I am not sorry because fangirl I am for this woman’s work. She is just an awesome writer/storyteller.
