REVIEW: A Is for Another Rabbit by Hannah Batsel
A rabbit-obsessed narrator makes an owl increasingly irate by refusing to play by the rules of a conventional alphabet book. Every entry is about bunnies, from “delightful, dynamic, daredevil rabbits” to “xylophone rabbits and rabbits on drums!” Readers will pore over scenes of bunnies at the circus, in a tiny town, at the museum, even in a motorcycle gang. Author-illustrator Hannah Batsel takes readers on a delightful romp through the alphabet and keeps them laughing all the way to the ridiculously fun conclusion.
Review
Think it’s impossible to write an alphabet book that focuses on rabbits? Owl thought so, too. But here it is! Rabbits, hares and kits (not kites) everywhere. Tall rabbits, short rabbits, a rabbit, bunnies, white rabbits / black rabbits / rabbits with spots. The art work is adorable and the book includes lots of descriptive words that will make up for the lack of cows, dogs, foxes, iguanas, rhinos, and water buffaloes. Children can also count the number of rabbits per page and work on their numbers. Be sure to look for the bunny slippers! B
