REVIEW: Invasion of the Unicorns by David Biedrzycki
He’s just a cute little unicorn who wants to take over the world.
Special Agent Bubble07 is undercover on planet Earth. His mission: to decide whether his team of alien unicorns should invade Earth. Posing as a stuffed animal, he infiltrates the home of Earthling Daughter, where he puts up with dog slobber, tea parties, and show and tell. Will the unicorn blow his cover and call for backup? Or will his alien heart be won over by storytime, snow days, and snuggles?
I had so much fun reading “Sumo Kitty” that when I saw this author’s name I was all over it. So you think it’s going to be the tentacled monsters who land on Earth ready to take us over? HA! No my fellow Earthlings the invasion will be lead by … a sparkly, fluffy unicorn? He might look like an innocent stuffed toy (and Fearless Leader warned him about that) but in reality he’s a spy sent to plot the exact moment when the unicorn army arrives to make us their servants.
Meanwhile he will witness Earthling children temper tantrums, go camping and brave the great outdoors, and be careful because the Earthling dog might be onto him. If our little fluffy spy can resist the temptation of the amazing Earthling treat called “peanut butter cookies,” (and get the recipe before the invasion begins) and … but wait, there are things called birthday parties, and going swimming, and letting a little girl cuddle him when she doesn’t feel good while her father reads her “Sumo Kitty.” Hmmm, he might have to rethink this invasion.
If your child loves unicorns they will adore the illustrations here and parents will laugh and enjoy watching Agent Bubble07 fall just as much in love with his little girl as she does with him. I smiled the whole way through reading it. A
That does look and sound charming, Jayne. Thanks for your review.
@Kareni: You get to learn all kinds of things about alien unicorns, too! Like they love peanut butter cookies but they can’t swim so make sure they have a flotation device on around swimming pools.
