REVIEW: Breaking Cat News: Cats Reporting on the News that Matters to Cats by Georgia Dunn
Cats reporting on the news that matters to cats with stories such as The Vacuum Cleaner Is Back!, The Woman Is Cooking Bacon!, and The Ceiling Cats Are Everywhere Tonight! Cynical, no nonsense Elvis and shy, sweet, sensitive Puck are the reporter kitties in the field, while the adventurous jokester Lupin serves as anchor cat. Together they break headlines on the food bowl, new plants, mysterious red dots, strange cats in the yard, and all the daily happenings in their home.
Dear Ms. Dunn,
OMG SQUEEEE! When I saw this cover, I knew I had to read this book. I am, after all, firmly under the paws of my feline overlords and ladies. Once I began reading all about Puck, Elvis and Lupin earnestly yet hilariously reporting on everything in their lives, I couldn’t stop. Then I had to go back and immediately reread bits of it as I laughed and nodded at my Felines. I think they’re getting ideas.
The drawings are darling, showcasing each cat’s personality as well as Standard Cat things like wanting to be on the other side of the shut door, fluffing up at the cat outside, the indignity of being stuffed in a cat carrier, pointing out that the cat food bowl is empty!, engaging in midnight cat races, public service announcements about appropriate places to hide during a thunderstorm, lounging on the laptop when the Woman is trying to type, “helping” her when she’s hocking up a hairball – or so they think, delivering their opinion on the new cat kibble or sitting on that nice, large, warm, flat yummy smelling box that just got delivered. There’s nothing that escapes their notice or their interest. If it happens, Lupin, Puck and Elvis will be there to cover it! A

Yes! I think a friend will love it thank you.
@Sirius: I adored Puck, Elvis and Lupin. I want t-shirts. I want mugs. I want more!
Added to my list, because “wanting to be on the other side of the shut door.”
SOLD. Off to Kobo! (I’m pretty sure the meowbeast currently occupying my lap is a freelance correspondent for Cat News.)
@Jayne: there are tshirts and mugs! And I imagine that the book doesn’t have every single strip from the webcomic. http://www.breakingcatnews.com/store/
(I am in no way connected, just an enthusiastic fan of the comic)
Discovering “Breaking Cat News” was a highlight of 2015. I urge anyone with a fondness for felines to check out the strip: http://www.breakingcatnews.com/ . Do take advantage of the archives to follow the characters from the beginning. And as you catch up, don’t miss the comments that include regular observations and replies from Georgia Dunn herself. The book is definitely going onto my wishlist.
@Mercy: I will definitely check these out. @Mzcue: They have a new correspondent – the social media reporter. Am happy.
I bought this before I even finished your review, but just got around to reading it last nite. I’m off to explore the website now. ::happy book glow::
After three grieving, catless years, I unexpectedly inherited a new cat. Well, new to me. I’ve adopted adult cats before, but, at 12 yo, this one is the oldest. He is well-mannered, easygoing, and agreeable. . . but steadfastly determined to have everything exactly his own way. No deviation or negotiation permitted. Of course, I’ve willingly accepted his patient, if sometimes exasperated, tutelage and have devoted myself to providing him with a life of suitable comfort and entertainment. Something every cat companion understands.
