Friday News: More digital lending; 24 hour library access; and Noel Gallagher hates books?
Each year, a portion of the proceeds from the Emerald City Writers’ Conference book fair goes to support DAWN (Domestic Abuse Women’s Network). For 2013, they’ve partnered with Barnes & Noble as the vendor, which means readers who are unable to attend the book fair in person will still be able to have a portion of their purchase go toward DAWN. If a reader purchases a book by a participating author does so either in a B&N store or online, DAWN will receive a donation.

Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher lashes out against literature lovers CBC Music So Noel Gallagher apparently hates novels, those who write novels, those who review novels, and those who win awards for literature. Noel needs a cookie. Or a pumpkin spice latte.
“Because people who write and read and review books are f–king putting themselves a tiny little bit above the rest of us who f–king make records and write pathetic little songs for a living.”
So how does he feel about the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, even though he doesn’t seem to know who it is? “What a c—. Whoever that is, has got to be. I don’t get it. Book sellers, book readers, book writers, book owners — f–ck all of them,” says Gallagher. Seriously, book owners? CBA

Perhaps it would be more informative to have a list of people Noel does like.
I love Noel Gallagher! Uneducated, egotistical, highly intelligent, he puts a swing on things, gives everything a different viewpoint, whether you agree or not. Since his favorite guitarists include Jimmy Page and Jonny Marr, he’s not wrong about everything! He must have a new album coming out soon. When that happens, he targets a piece of popular culture and lays into it, and the media always responds.
It’s the Mank way.
24 hour library- as Rachel Maddow would say “best new thing in the world today”- or maybe just in the US since the article does mention China having them. LOVE IT!
And yea! B&N and all those authors for supporting DAWN.
Kind of makes the Noel Gallagher rant (publicity stunt or not) seem a little pathetic.
Noel subscribes to both the “You can only like one thing ever” AND “I am outraged people like things I don’t like” schools of internet thought! Who knew.
I love Oasis and Noel, but don’t expect him to make sense. This is a man whose daughter was named after Anais Nin after all.
Showing my age here (or general cluelessness) but I’ve never heard of Noel Gallagher so umm… yeah….

Sadly, (whether it’s sad that it exists, or sad that I know it exists), there is a list! I am a fan of his music, but I will readily admit Noel and his brother Liam have lots and LOTS of opinions and don’t hesitate to share. Don’t click if you’re offended by the f-bomb, as that’s dropped all over the place.

There’s also one from his brother and former bandmate, Liam. I think it’s bonus content from a concert video, or something similar.
This is nothing new, he’s said similarly stupid things about anything from Coldplay to, well, anything else you can think of. SSDD. ;)
@Julie M.: Noel is from the British band Oasis, with such hits as “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Champagne Supernova,” and “Wonderwall.” They were heavily influenced by The Beatles. They formed in the early 90s but broke up recently, and he’s playing on his own now, I think.
Thanks, Dear Author, for highlighting the book fair. It’s my home chapter/conference and we’ve been supporting DAWN for several years.
We had a great turnout at the book fair and can’t wait to see how the online portion works out.
