REVIEW: Before the Scandal by Suzanne Enoch

Dear Ms. Enoch:

book review I really adored After the Kiss and I was hopeful, given the prominence that Bram was given in AtK that this would be his book. However, it is not. This is the story of Lieutenant Colonel Phineas Bromley who ran away from the world and joined the Royal Dragoons in his youth because of something horrible he had done. Ten years later, Phin was going home at the request of his sister, Elizabeth, who had suggested in her last missive that their brother, Viscount Quence, was on his deathbed.

When Phineas arrives at Quence Park in East Sussux, he finds William, Viscount Quence, looking pretty hale for a chair bound individual. William was paralyzed in a riding accident that occurred, coincidentally, 10 years ago. While Elizabeth’s summons are based on false reasons, what is real is a number of strange occurrences that are taking place at Quence Park, a string of really bad luck that is threatening the estate and the heritage of the Bromley family. Elizabeth begs for him to stay without giving him the reasons why and Phin decides that he has neglected his …

REVIEW: After the Kiss by Suzanne Enoch

Dear Ms. Enoch:

book review Like commenter Corrine, I had admittedly had some issues with the past few historicals. I had enjoyed England’s Perfect Hero so much (as Corrine says “hands-down favorite SE title”) that it may have affected my opinion of the books that followed.

Needless to say, I adored After the Kiss. First, I loved the title. It had real meaning for the story. Sullivan James Waring joined the Royal Dragoons and while he was gone his mother, Francesca Perris, died. She was a tenant of Sullivan’s father, the Marquis of Dunston. Dunston has never recognized Sullivan although it is well known that he is Dunston’s bastard son. Sullivan is sneaking into houses at night to recover his mother’s legacy - 13 paintings that Dunston commandeered and sold or gave away.

One of the paintings was given to the Marquis of Darshear’s family. Sullivan sneaks in, grabs a number of things including the paintings and is about to scamper off when Isabel comes down for a late night snack. They engage in a short conversation and Sullivan grabs and kisses her to keep …

REVIEW: Touch of Minx by Suzanne Enoch

Dear Ms. Enoch:

Book CoverWhile I enjoyed book 1 and 2 of this series, I feel like the series is stagnating a bit and while there is forward motion in the 5th entry to the Sam and Rick saga, I’ve kind of lost interest. The issues that Sam and Rick are struggling with in A Touch of Minx are the same that appeared in the first four books and the well plotted mystery isn’t enough to carry me through those emotionally stale waters.

Samantha Jellicoe is a cat burglar gone straight. She runs a security business with a friend and is invited to investigate the loss of stolen Japanese artifacts taken from the Met 10 years ago. The Japanese have a new traveling exhibit that the Met would like to host but the Japanese have told them that it must redeem its honor by producing the stolen armor and swords. Jellicoe is retained to recover those. In a seemingly effortless manner, Samantha and Rick are able to whittle down the possible culprits to a few people who live in Palm Beach. The convenience of this is staggering.

Rick is highly displeased …

REVIEW: Twice the Temptation by Suzanne Enoch

Dear Ms. Enoch:

Twice the Temptation (Avon Romance)Twice the Temptation is a package similar to the Nora Roberts/JD Robb collection, Remember When. Both collections feature descendants tied together by a diamond. Remember When’s diamond is stolen and Twice the Temptation is cursed.

A Diamond or Forever. In 1814, Evangeline Munroe, daughter of a viscount, is given a one hundred and sixty-nine carat diamond necklace from her aunt. Her aunt tells her that the Nightshade Diamond is cursed. If you have it on your person, you have bad luck, and if you put it away, you have good. Evangeline is pragmatic and dismisses her aunt’s warnings. During a carriage ride, she inspects the diamond and then puts it away and shortly thereafter crashes into the Marquis of Rawley, Connoll Spencer Addison. Connoll is still drunk in the early morning hours and believes Evangeline to be his former mistress and kisses her soundly. Despite the public setting and the spectators, this act does not ruin Evangeline nor do any of the subsequent encounters that she …

REVIEW: Sins of a Duke by Suzanne Enoch

Dear Ms. Enoch:

Book CoverIt is always very difficult to live up to one’s own hype. The Sins of a Duke is the fourth and final entry in the Sin series. I have read two of the previous three. In the previous stories, Sebastian, the eldest brother, has played a large role. He was a strong and influential member of his family, as well as a powerful man of England.

He had lost his wife a few years ago and has been raising his daughter by himself. He’s much used to responsibility, having inherited the dukedom at age seventeen. The novel opens well enough with Sebastian acting every inch the autocratic lord that he is, displaying political savvy and usefulness to the crown. He’s portrayed as an attentive father and a good brother as well as one who is subconsciously is missing something in his life.

Enter Josefina Katarina Embry. Josefina is the daughter of the Rey of Costa Habichuela, a country on the coast of South America. Her family is in London to gain financial and political support from the crown. Instead of getting the Bank of London to …

REVIEW: Billionaires Prefer Blondes by Suzanne Enoch

Dear Ms. Enoch:

Billionaires Prefer BlondesThis is the third in the series and I would rate it better than the last one but still not as good as the first. Enoch has pretty good knack for setting up a heist and bringing in the kind of Thomas Crown Affair aura to it. My main problem with the book was Sam, again. I am always picking on the girls. :)

Samantha Jellicoe is a recently reformed thief who desperately misses the rush of the B&E. Richard Addison is a billionaire who buys and sells businesses, land, etc. for a living. Sam and Rick met in book one when Sam went to burglarize Rick’s home. She specialized in stealing art. Since falling for Rick, though, she’s had to go straight. She’s trying to stick to the straight and narrow by running a security consulting business.

Rick and Sam go to Sotheby’s for an auction to buy a Rodin. While there, Sotheby’s announces that the Hogarth up for auction had another Hogarth behind the face canvas. Rick and Sam decide to get the set. Problem is that an old acquaintance of Sam’s is …
