Stephenie Meyer, author of Eclipse, might not yet be JK Rowling but she sold 150,000 copies of her third book on Tuesday. The original print run was 1,000,000, but after first day sales, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers have gone back for a second printing.
I am thinking, though, that the momentum won’t hold. I was disappointed in Eclipse. Other adult fans were disappointed. Even the teen fans were disappointed.
The Shelf Awareness article noted that “Meyer has built her audience quietly, relying “on the Internet for promotion–with an active presence” on MySpace and her own website.” That really isn’t accurate. Meyer did a book tour for the second release, New Moon, and held a prom party that drew hundreds from all over the world.
