By Jane • Apr 14th, 2008 • Category: Publishing News

Little, Brown (and not Penguin UK) did some “extensive market research” to ascertain why US mega bestseller Nora Roberts isn’t making the same waves in the UK. Apparently it is the covers. The focus group readers said that the covers were too old and didn’t represent the “strong female characters” that the readers [...]

REVIEW: Strangers in Death by JD Robb

By Janet • Feb 19th, 2008 • Category: B Reviews Category, B+ Reviews, C Reviews, C Reviews Category, Reviews

Dear Ms. Roberts:
I discovered the In Death series almost 20 books in (at the publication of Portrait in Death), so I had the opportunity to read a big chunk of Eve and Roarke’s story all at once. I was immediately and completely caught up in the fictional futuristic world, from the tumultuous adventure of [...]

Save a Ferret; Save an Author

By Jane • Jan 16th, 2008 • Category: Letters of Opinion, Misc

Want to give a show of support outside making a comment? If you’ve read the Newsweek report by Paul Tolme, the ferrets whose “closest relations are European ferrets and Siberian polecats” are an endangered species.  Nora Roberts and the Smart Bitches have put together a wonderful sort of “pay it forward” campaign.  If you [...]

REVIEW: Blood Brothers by Nora Robert

By Jane • Dec 4th, 2007 • Category: B Reviews Category, B- Reviews, Reviews

Dear Ms. Roberts:
This is a tough review to write and not because I was unhappy with it but because while good, it reads like one giant prologue.
This book is better suited to be purchased and read with its two other companion books because the plot is one that spans the three books. [...]

REVIEW: Creation in Death by J.D. Robb

By Jane • Nov 12th, 2007 • Category: C Reviews, C Reviews Category, Reviews

Dear Ms. Roberts
I feel a bit awkward writing this review because I know that you read the blog on occassion. I felt like I was on a Nora Roberts high the last three books. Angels Fall, Innocent in Death, and High Noon were all either keepers or close to keepers so I was [...]

If you didn’t heart Nora Roberts before for her writing, you have to love her for the speech she gave last night at the 3d Annual Quill Awards. Publisher’s Weekly and NBC teamed up to create the Quill Awards a few years ago with the intention of bringing “glamour and red carpet extravagance to [...]

REVIEW: High Noon by Nora Roberts

By Jane • Jul 17th, 2007 • Category: A Review Category, A- Reviews, Reviews

Dear Ms. Roberts:
Most readers say the same thing about you and that is you consistently deliver good, solid reads. But as with all authors, particularly those with ginormous backlists (and yes, ginormous is now an official word), some books are better than others. When I started this book, I was a little apprehensive [...]

REVIEW: Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts

By Jane • Nov 13th, 2006 • Category: A Review Category, A- Reviews, Reviews

Dear Ms. Roberts:
If I were to rate my favorite books by my favorite authors, this would probably qualify. It’s full of classic Nora Roberts features: three dimensional characters, rich family relationships (albeit dysfunctional), and two believable individuals coming together to give each other comfort and love. Your books aren’t about the big and grand [...]

REVIEW: Dance of the Gods by Nora Roberts

By Jane • Sep 28th, 2006 • Category: B Reviews Category, B- Reviews, Reviews

Dear Ms. Roberts:
This is the second in your famed paranormal series called the Circle Trilogy. I’ve learned through reading Morrigan’s Cross and Dance of the Gods that you write actions scenes really well which is something I didn’t know you had in you. Apparently you can write anything. Let’s see you try your hand [...]

REVIEW: Morrigan’s Cross by Nora Roberts

By Jane • Aug 31st, 2006 • Category: B Reviews, B Reviews Category, Ebooks, Reviews

Dear Ms. Roberts:
As you can tell by my book pimping post, I was excited to read this book. It was exactly what was promised: A Nora Roberts take on the paranormal. The characters and the magic felt familiar. The vampire lore followed traditional paths. I hadn’t read a Roberts book, [...]

Dear Author’s RWA Report: Jolie, the Intrepid Bookseller

By Jane • Aug 7th, 2006 • Category: Misc

A good friend of mine, Jolie, is a bookseller who specializes in selling romances. She goes to RWA every year. This time I begged her to write up a report about what she found out at the conference about the future of romance. This is her report:

RWA 2006 – Hotlanta!

Another RWA conference [...]

The following guest review/letter comes from author Jenyfer Matthews whose latest release, One Crazy Summer, is available in ebook form.

The nicest thing my ex-SIL ever did was introduce me to Nora Roberts books. She gave me a box of her castoffs with the warning that they were formulaic but fun. Included in the [...]
