By Jane • Nov 7th, 2007 • Category: Reviews

I received a note in my inbox that a new ebook publisher, Twilight Fantasies Publications, have officially closed their doors. The house opened in May and closed this month. Editors, authors, cover artists are unpaid. When asked about payment issues and reversion [...]

Harlequin eBooks Lead the Way

By Jane • Sep 20th, 2007 • Category: Publishing News

I think that when you say the word “ebook” that the assumption is the major consumer is a male, probably one who is a tech aficionado. The reality, though, is that the most successful epublishing company is one that caters to women. The majority of bestselling ebooks are romances. And yesterday, Harlequin [...]

REVIEW: Stardust Press Closing Its Doors?

By Jane • Sep 16th, 2007 • Category: Ebooks

Stardust Press is an epublisher who started last fall (2006). It doesn’t appear to be a fly-by-night operation as it was reported that it gave $50 advances per the contract. For whatever reasons, Stardust Press will soon no longer be a going concern according to a source.

The publisher from Total E-Bound contacted me and asked if I was interested in doing a type of feature for the new ebook company. I replied that I and our readers would be interested in hearing more about the new venture. Here is the uncut interview with Claire Siemaszkiewicz, Publisher, Total-E-Ntwined Limited T/A [...]

Ebook to Print: Does it matter to you?

By Jane • May 19th, 2007 • Category: Ebooks, Interviews, Misc

Jaid Black, owner of Ellora’s Cave, mentioned in her previous interview that she thought the NY move into e-publishing would have difficulties because authors want to see themselves in print. In the Triskelion drama of the past week, one thing was clear and that was Triskelion appeared to over extend itself in attempting to [...]

Triskelion Disinvited to RWA

By Jane • May 16th, 2007 • Category: Ebooks, Misc

Triskelion has published some very entertaining reads, my favorites probably being Shelly Laurentson’s Pack series which is now available at Samhain. We’ve been critical of its editing but not necessarily of the books. Triskelion has, however, hit some rocky ground. The news is flying today that Triskelion has been disinvited to RWA and [...]

REVIEW: Harper Collins Dips Its Toes into Ebook Publishing

By Jane • Mar 28th, 2007 • Category: Ebooks

While perusing the deals today, I came across a sale by agent Bob Diforio to Harper Collins for three erotic novellas penned by Delilah Devlin. The wording of the deal was so different that I wondered if it meant what I thought it meant.
Delilah Devlin's three erotic novellas, again to May Chen at Harper, [...]

Part Two: What the NY Publishers Are Doing Wrong with Ebooks

By Jane • Nov 19th, 2006 • Category: Ebooks, Letters of Opinion, Misc

Last week, I had a short list of what publishers were doing right with ebooks. This week, I have a short list of what they are generally doing wrong with short individual complaints. (I am kind of ruining the whole “being thankful” thing, aren’t I?)

Lack consistency in releasing formats: I.e, Renee Bernard My [...]

Part 1: What New York Publishers Are Doing Right with Ebooks

By Jane • Nov 12th, 2006 • Category: Ebooks, Letters of Opinion, Misc

First let me start out with the news of Random House’s ebookstore closing. If you didn’t catch the “news” feature last week, Keishon emailed me that she noticed that Random House was telling people to download their books because contentlinkinc.com was closing. I emailed Kelley Allen, Director of New Media at Random House, [...]

REVIEW: ebook weekly: samhain publishing, ltd review

By Jayne • Aug 6th, 2006 • Category: B Reviews, B Reviews Category, Bookstore, Ebooks, Reviews

Samhain has been in business for almost a year (if I’m reading their “about us” section correctly). They publish ebooks and print books ranging from short stories to plus novels ($2.50-$6.50 ebook prices). Samhain has two yahoo groups, Samhain News (announcements) and Samhain Café (chat). They state that their policy is to sell ebooks for [...]
