Since ebooks and digitally printed books don’t have a shelf life of minutes, as is the case with traditionally published books, there’s no need to send out ARCs for novels. The books will likely still be available years after they’re released, so recommending or even reviewing them after they’re published is just as useful as if the recommend came prior to publication.

@Just Wonderin’: Torquere regularly sends me their review list…2-4 weeks after the books are released, making it difficult to read ahead of time enough to recommend them for when they come out, because they’re already out when I get the list. I haven’t found an Ellora’s Cave book worth recommending in a while, and I’ve tried.

The problem is usually actually getting advanced copies of books in enough time to be able to read them so that I can recommend them. Things are slightly more informal in ebook world and on a slightly tighter time budget, so books aren’t ready 2-3 months in advance for ARCs like they are for print books.

And I’ve been very very busy. :) I haven’t had much time for reading, but I slather over K.A. Mitchell, and fought to get an advanced copy in time enough to read it to recommend it. And while Chasing Smoke is not her best, it’s completely worth recommending.

There was only one Samhain book here that was recommended? Unless you meant from other recommendation posts?

Really looking forward to the K.A. Mitchell review. The book will be fantastic without needing a review anyway, the woman is one of the best writers in this genre (for me). I just finished reading her novel Regularly Scheduled Life. So.Much.Love.

@Just Wonderin’ If you are referencing ebooks, then we have, in the past, recommended and reviewed non Samhain ebooks but we also are on Samhain's review list which means that we are sent their books for review. Not all e publishers send their books to us for review.

I would highly recommend “Behind the Red Door” by Jackie Barbosa for fans of historical romance. Her debut book, 3 super hot novellas all with a tie to the infamous Red Door brothel. I’m picky about my historical romance, and this one’s a winner!

Fans of historical romance and/or things Japanese might enjoy Kei Swanson's Seabird of Sanematsu and Season of Sanematsu, and Mayra Calvani's Sunstruck takes chick-lit to a whole new level. One of the joys of being a small press: I not only get to read good books, I get to make them available so other people can, too. :-)
