CARPE CORPUS by Rachel Caine (2 ARCS)
Technically this book is published by NAL Jam, since it’s Rachel’s YA series, but I’m sneaking it in here since most of her books are Roc. This is the latest of her Morganville Vampires novels, about Claire Danvers, a young woman who goes off to college in Texas…and discovers the entire town is run by vampires. The whole series is well-done and very entertaining, and this particular book features a vampiric version of a computer / artificial intelligence (note: it’s kind of steampunk-ish and absolutely fascinating), and there are developments in Claire and her boyfriend Shane’s relationship that you will not want to miss.
PHANTASM by Phaedra Weldon (2 ARCS)
This is urban fantasy with a twist: the smart and sassy heroine, Zoe Martinique, can leave her body behind and travel in the realm of the ghostly at will. In this installment, Zoe is trying to rescue her mother’s soul, still lost on the Abysmal plane. But to do so, she must team up with her nemesis…If you think you know where this is going, you may be surprised!

DARKNESS CALLS by Marjorie M. Liu (1 ARC)
Marjorie has written a number of wonderful paranormal romances; DARKNESS CALLS is the second in her urban fantasy series about a demon hunter with some unusual guardians: tattoos that come to life at night. I love the opening of this one: “Zombies had a bad habit of shooting me in the head. Most of them knew better, but there was always that one who wanted to get lucky.”
SKINWALKER by Faith Hunter (2 ARCS)
Faith starts a new urban fantasy series with this novel. Jane Yellowrock is the last of her kind—a skinwalker of Cherokee descent who can turn into any creature she desires—and hunts the undead for a living. The author has a great eye for detail and the setting of New Orleans and the characters really come alive. Plus, how can you go wrong when the love interest is a hot Cajun biker!

VANISHED by Kat Richardson (1 ARC)
Kat’s series is the closest to mystery, what we call urban fantasy noir, of all the fantasy writers I work with. Her heroine in this series, Harper Blaine, is an actual P.I. working in Seattle. She handled the usual small-time cases until she died—for two minutes. When she came back to life, she was different, and her new abilities as a Greywalker are landing her all sorts of “strange” cases involving the paranormal. There’s a wonderful sense of place in these books and the writing is terrific.
SKIN DEEP by Mark Del Franco (2 ARCS)
This is first in a new series that I describe as ALIAS, the paranormal version! Laura Blackstone is an intelligence agent with magic, and when she disguises herself, it’s more than a new outfit or a way or talking—with her glamour spells, she can choose exactly how she looks. Of course, with all these identities, it’s easy to lose sight of who she really is. One of my favorite moments is when Laura wakes up after an accident and almost at the same time she’s wondering where she is, she’s wondering who she is, as in, is she still glamoured or has she dropped her spell—and broken cover.

Unfortunately, since I LOVE The stuff coming from ACE/ROC there are two books on this list that I would love to get my hands on:
Vanished by Kat Richardson since it is the fourth and the series is really starting to crank. It is a unique and well written series.
and
Skinwalker by Faith Hunter. I was lucky enought to get a ARC for Strange Brew and Ms. Hunter’s short story in that made me really intrigued with Jane.
But if I had to choose, I would say Skinwalker is the one I am most excited about since it is the start of a new series.
One book? Got to be Darkness Calls. I absolutely adore Marjorie M. Liu’s Dirk & Steele series and I’ve been meaning to buy The Iron Hunt for ages. As for which book I’m most excited about for August, I would say Skin Deep. The premise sounds very engaging.

I’m still reading the first saga and am on Traitor to the Blood, but I just know I’ll be launching right into the second saga as soon as I’m done with the first, probably well ahead of the new book’s release in January of 2010.
There are others, but that one’s foremost in my mind ATM.

How can I find out about books coming up further in the future? They don’t seem to be on the publisher website, and while I certainly have some books I’m excited about I usually only pay attention to the author, not the publisher, so I don’t know whether they’re ACE ROC books.

DARKNESS CALLS! I love Zee and the boys. I think they would come in very handy in my day job. Not that I’m a demon hunter, but graphic designers need supernatural protection (and murderous personal warriors) more than you’d think.
I’m a latecomer to the Mercy Thompson books. But I just read BONE CROSSED and am going back for the first three. So I’m definitely looking forward to HUNTING GROUND.

Leave me out of the drawing, obviously, but I just wanted to say that in addition to Hunting Ground, which I am absolutely salivating for, I am also really excited about Sharon Shinn’s October hardcover anthology from Ace, Quatrain. It’s going to have four novellas set in four different worlds from Shinn’s previous books — the angel/Samaria (Archangel, etc.) world, the Gillengaria (Mystic and Rider, etc.) world, the world from Summers at Castle Auburn, and the world from Heart of Gold. I’m excited about the angel novella and dying for another story set in the world of Heart of Gold.

I would love to read Mark Del Franco’s Skin Deep.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the anthology Must Love Hellhounds with my favorite authors Ilona Andrews, Charlaine Harris, Nalini Singh and Meljean Brook. I’m not sure if this is ROC/Ace.
I’m salivating thinking about Hunting Ground. Briggs is such a phenomenal author.

I was really tempted to put DARKNESS CALLS by Marjorie M. Liu as I loved the first book in this series but I thought it would be better to use this chance to try a new author :)

Later: Don’t know, these authors aren’t familiar to me. No doubt after I read the blurbs/excerpts I will find myself wanting several. I know Liu has been mentioned on several occasions so I know I want to check her out.
The book I want now is DARKNESS CALL by Marjorie Liu and for later I am very intrigued by several of the books here, one of them SKIN DEEP by Mark Del Franco.
The ARC I would like now is Carpe Corpus I really enjoy this series
Book I can’t wait to read is Blood Promise, Cape Storm and Hunting Ground

I agree with whoever said they should start the series by Marjorie M. Liu. Her romances are so good, I don’t know what’s taken me so long to pick this one up. “Cape Corpus” also looks good, and I’m glad it was mentioned because I don’t think I would have heard of it otherwise.
However, I am most interested in “Skinwalker” by Faith Hunter. This book sounds like something I’d love!

The two books I would most like to have: 1) Skinwalker by Faith Hunter ( Adored her post apocalyptic angel series!) 2) Phantasm by Phaedra Weldon ( I know nothing about this writer but the blurb seems interesting and I keep hearing her name).
For book being released in August/September/October: Vanished by Kat Richardson seems really cool.
Also can I say how excited I am about the release of Dark Reaches by Kristin Landon. I love this series- happy happy happy joy joy joy.

Hmm for this month I would like Skinwalker by Faith Hunter. I haven’t read any of her books before but this sounds really intriguing.
For the next set I would love Skin Deep by Mark Del Franco. I own and eagerly devoured Mark’s previous three books.

Many of my favorite books are from Ace and Roc so I’m always eager to see what is coming out. So many of these books sound great.
Skinwalker is on the top of my list. Carpe Corpus is also on my auto buy list. I’ve read all the other books in this series.

I said in a comment in the previous post (reading all my feeds in chronological order is a pain sometimes) that I adore Faith Hunter. (Okay, I said I’d stalk her if I had time but let’s let that one go.) Needless to say, the book I’m most interested in is Skinwalker. Man, I do love her.
I also really like the Rachel Caine and Kat Richardson series so both of those books would be great.

There are honestly no books that I want right now, but that’s only because I spent an hour at the bookstore yesterday and hefted home a huge bag filled with all the books I’d been looking for (and then some, as usual).
I’m looking forward to Marjorie M. Liu’s Darkness Calls. The Hunter Kiss series is incredibly detailed and creative, I’m excited to see what happens next. (Especially since I hear the hero’s powers will be discussed more in Darkness Calls.)

Soooo many awesome books, so little time! I wish I could have 10 more hours a day just for reading.
At first my first choice for the one book I want now was Carpe Corpus but then I noticed that it’s written by Rachel Caine. And I promised myself never to read Rachel Caine ever again. So I have to let that one go. So my now book will have to be Skinwalker by Faith Hunter.
