RWA has approved a Special Interest Chapter for writers specializing in LGBT romance. The website for the new chapter is here.
Congratulations to everyone who worked behind the scenes to get this chapter up and running and to RWA who approved it. The group has 39 members and their goals are:
- to promote excellence in gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender romances
- to help members become published in LGBT romances
- to be an advocate within the industry for our genre
- to be a resource to our members and others on writing and the publishing industry
Interested writers can contact LGBT at membership@rainbowromancewriters.com if they would like to become members of RRW. They can also email Jade Buchanan directly at jade.buchanan@yahoo.com.

SWEET!! Fantastic news. I’m so happy to read this. The authors on my Yahoo loop will be thrilled to hear about it too, if they haven’t already. Thanks for the heads-up!
Fabulous and about time!
WOW!
About damn time!
That’s really cool!
WOW! That’s fantastic news. I’m off to email them. :)
Wonderful news. Nice to see RWA responding to the reality of the marketplace in this regard. I know several prospective members, to whom I will pass along this welcome news.
Congratulations and well done.
RWA as a national org doesn’t form chapters. A group of individuals apply for chapter status, provide the necessary paperwork and are then admitted as a chapter beneath the national umbrella. That’s not to say all chapters that apply will be approved. If, for instance, a group wanted to form a romantic suspense chapter, what would be the point? There is one already. Most chapters are based on region or locality, but special interest chapters are not.
I’m delighted that someone – a group of someones – chose to form a LGBT chapter. I wish them all the best.
After past kerfuffles over things like the definition of romance, I was so relieved that the RWA BOD approved the Rainbow chapter’s application. And excited for the future! This is the kind of news that makes me feel very hopeful that the world is changing for the better.
That’s great news!! Kudos to the formation team! It had to have been a lot of work to get off the ground.
Fantastic news! Does this mean RWA might soon add a GLBT category to the RITAs?

While there at it, they need to add an African American category because until bookstores place AA romances on the shelves with other romances and not in the AA section it might as well be treated as a separate category as well.
