I understand your frustration, Samantha, but it's not all that rosy for the m/m stories either. This weekend Amazon stripped the sales ranking from False Colors, Transgressions and hundreds of other m/m, f/f and erotica books. That means that now, no matter how well they sell, they can never appear on a bestseller list anywhere - they have essentially been made invisible to anyone not already looking for them. I don't suppose it's direct cause and effect, but this did happen just after False Colors and Transgressions began showing up regularly in the mainstream romance top 100.

I've also heard this morning that Barnes and Noble have re-classified False Colors and Transgressions in their database as 'gay literature' rather than 'romance'. So it looks as if the conservative backlash has started, and it isn't going to be as simple as we hoped to get m/m fiction out of its ghetto either.

@<a href="#comment-197802" rel="nofollow">samantha</a>: You've got to be kidding me. This issue is probably dependent on <b>individual stores</b>. Sarah F might have said that it will be shelved in the romance section, but you missed <a href="#comment-197654" rel="nofollow">Chicklet</a>'s comment saying that she found it in the Gay & Lesbian section instead.

This isn't even the only issue here. Groups like RT still refuse to review gay romance.

And this is what, the first time a major publisher is publishing gay romance. It's their big break. Why rain on the parade?

What's fascinating is that romance novels written by black authors get shelved in the AA section but a M/M story will get shelved in the romance section. I guess my takeaway is that as long as the story is white it's right for romance.

I actually found these on one of our front tables in the B&N where I work, and I did a little dance of joy. Bought both titles and am hoping they do well so we see more.

Dear Author has discovered what some of us have long known: Alex Beecroft is a magical writer. As both a friend and a fan of Alex, I want to say how glad I am for the amazing review.

And if I may, I'd like to mention another book by Alex that is lesser known but just as magically written, and with magic in the story to boot: Witch's Boy. I hope the success of False Colors will translate into success for Witch's Boy as well.

They both deserve to be read and read and read.

I have designated splurges every month (there's a list) and April was already covered. Covered! And then I read the review and somehow about an hour ago, a copy of this book magically shipped from Amazon, bound for my house.

Thanks a lot, Joan/Sarah F. Thanks SO MUCH. God.

(No, really, thank you.)

I picked up a copy at the downtown Minneapolis B&N over lunch (on the basis of this review!) and found it in the Gay & Lesbian section, not Romance. So if you look in Romance and it's not there, try the GLBT section.

What a truly magical combination! One of my favorite reviewers reviewing one of my favorite authors, and the book WINS! Really I love both Joan and Alex because for me their writings have that rare marriage of art and heart in them.

PS. I can wait a couple of weeks for eversion but not a single day longer!!!

Hi - I am buying this book on the strength of your wonderful review, but I've just got to correct a point. Patrick O'Brian's books were set during the Napoleonic wars - 1800 through 1815 (Master and Commander, the first book, starts in 1800), nearly 40 years after the setting of False Colors.

Different age, altogether.
