We are at a crucial juncture in the Final Four at the DABWAHA. Who will survive to the Championship Round? You decide with your votes. (cue ominous music).
Will it be urban fantasy tear jerker, Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs? Possibly contemporary favorite, Blue Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas. Or historical breakout The Spymaster’s Lady by Joanna Bourne (would she rather win the DABWAHA or the RITA?). Maybe Maya Banks’ polyamorous tale of love between one woman and three men (yes, shocking isn’t it?) will be the surprise darkhouse winner.

Hey! “Urban fantasy tear jerker”? Tear jerker? That just sounds so small and pejorative for a story about a strong and honorable character. Yes, OK, there were tears, but there was enormous heart and courage; there was Mercy. The best book of the year, in my opinion.
Guess you can tell where my vote’s going.
I don’t think of “tearjerker” as a pejorative term. To me, it is actually a compliment.
@Janine: For me “tearjerker” is right up there with “bodice ripper” and “chic lit:” all are ways to pigeon-hole and dismiss this beloved genre, which is not the case here on DA, certainly. I was practicing my trash talk and, as you can tell, I have no game.

LOL. I think of “tear jerker” as indicating that the author was skillful enough to move me to tears.
