Source Interlink was granted a temporary injunction disallowing publishers and distributors from denying shipments of the magazines. Source Interlink and Anderson News form 1/2 of the national distributing chain of magazines and books. Source Interlink and Anderson News wanted to impose a 7 cent per copy surcharge. Publishers balked and refused delivery of its weekly magazines. Last week, Anderson News ceased normal business operations but Source Interlink filed suit. Last week, Source Interlink filed suit against publishers alleging antitrust violations. Recently the court granted temporary injunction with a permanent injunction hearing to take place on February 23.
Rumor is that the Anderson News fiasco is preventing books from getting into the stores and that March/April and possibly even May titles might be affected.
Well, as I stated in the other thread about this- I work at Walgreens. And we have not received and new books/magazines in the past 2 weeks. They picked some up last week, but no delivery.
( Ironically, I spoke to our manager about this. And while he had received an e-mail about this from corporate, *I* had to explain the why of it to him!)

Source Interlink distributes for Levy also, if I recall correctly. This is all just so not good.
My first book is supposed to come out in mass market in April. This is too frustrating. Even more reason to stick to e-books.

Yes, this whole thing is getting ugly. With Anderson News Company down the last big three distributors, Hudson News, News Group and The Source are scrambling to pick up 40,000 accounts. For the sake of authors, let’s hope someone comes out on top soon. Otherwise, those of us who have books coming out in the next three or four months are going to see 40 to 60% of our book distribution numbers gone. That’s a huge hit.
The other grim thing to consider is that Anderson News will probably be returning millions of books in the next month or so. Let’s hope publishers and authors can survive the blows that are still coming.

Scary thing is, I actually used to work for ANCO, or at least for Books a Million which was and I assume, still is, part of the same company. Back then they were richer than God. I wonder what the hell happened.
I emailed my editor yesterday and she said that Anderson Merchandisers, not Anderson News, is the one for books. And that she hadn’t heard that book distribution would be affected.
