Oh, excellent. I just love a man who can take some wood, nails and whatnot and build something. Carpenters (with out buttcracks) are sexy.

Just how little or much say does an author have over cover and title for Harlequin books? I recall Michelle Styles talking about a checklist she sent in for the cover of one of her books. She ticked an incorrect box and wound up with a redheaded hero for the cover of one of her Roman books which made me think he might be a Celt – at least until I read the story.

And try to imagine this cover guy in polo shirts and deck shoes, with slightly longer hair and wearing an earring. Definitely not looking like a Mormon missionary! ;)

I’m inclined to buy this book based 2) on the review and 1) because Ms Ruff was so 100% classy about the review for her previous book.

Class will conquer.

And I’m hoping to sell to Harlequin and I’m double-hoping they won’t put any lame-o title on my novel, to say nothing of those cutesy little tag things. Can one hope?

Thank you so much for the lovely review of Baby On Board. I have to admit I’ve been waiting a bit anxiously for it. Your careful reviews on DearAuthor prove time and again that you take writing seriously and evaluate romance books critically. A good review from you means a great deal to me.

I laughed at the “Mormon missionary” comment because that’s the first thing I thought when I saw a clean-cut Patrick dressed in a tie and without his earring. We humble Harlequin authors have no say in the cover art.

My next book, a story about Ian, Patrick Berzani’s brother, is in the works. I hope you will have time to review it when it comes out.

LOL. This is, I believe, supposed to represent a scene at about the 4th month of her pregnancy. Rest assured that by the end of the book she can’t see her feet, feels like a bloated cow and race-waddles to the loo/john/facilities every 5 minutes.

But somehow I don’t think we’re ever going to see a cover pic of a nine months pregnant woman, determined look on her face, sprinting for the nearest toilet.

I love the protective hand over the belly to signal she’s preggers, even though she looks like she weighs 12lbs. That’s a damn small baby.

Julie, some of the “theme tags” are definitely better than others and most are better than this one. And does anyone ever look for those things anyway?

How I hate the Harlequin “theme tags”–they’re so poorly designed and they look like the text graphics from an early 1990s cable-TV show. That’s not a bad cover, but the “theme tag” makes it look cheesy.

There really are some good categories out there–especially when they really build on the relationship as it seems this one does. Sometimes reading a category feels a bit like coming in from the cold. Kind of like comfort food for the romantic in you. LOL

I think I’ll check this one out
