Picked this up a few weeks ago, and just finished tonight. Your review is spot on, but this and Victoria Dahl’s Talk Me Down (my weekend reading) made me conclude two things:

1. The straight (no ghosts, no bondage) contemporary is NOT dead. Thank goodness.
2. I’ve had enough cops (and dopey women-in-jeopardy storylines) for a month.

re: the poetry. I’m with maygirl about this. In this book, I ended up skimming most of it. Being able to write deathless prose doesn’t mean your skills extend to writing good poetry – which isn’t one of my favorite things to read anyway. ;)

What did you think of the poetry Jayne? I thought it was pretty silly and not erotic.

Well, I find that is almost always the problem with poetry written by a character in a book. In the story line it’s supposed to be so amazing and when you read it it is always mediocre. That always throws me out of the story, so I generally just skim whatever literary masterpieces a character writes so I can still enjoy the story.
