Jane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. I was going to say Patricia Cornwell also. or perhaps Janet Evanovich?
I have no idea. Gambling addiction can and does ruin your life, and I feel terrible for the author who was so down that she had to sell the rights of her books. I feel great sadness for her.
With any luck this type of press will be her rock bottom, and she can get the help she needs to get her life back together.
Hasn’t the guy from Crazy Days and Nights been proven as a fraud? Or am I thinking of some other blind-item website?

Although this does seem more Patricia Cornwell-ish, now that you mention her….
Sony Pictures signed a deal with Patricia Cornwell in 2000 for the rights to 11 thrillers featuring her character Dr Kay Scarpetta. So in view to past proported reluctance…I’d have to voice a tremulous, ‘no’, to the gossip. My hope is it not be so.
If you scan the comments on the other sites, Jackie Collins and Anne Rice were popular guesses, with JC edging out AR because of AR’s sudden religious bent and JC’s love of casinos.
I hope that guy really IS a fraud, though, because how utterly heartbreaking.

kind of contradict each other, so hopefully he made it up.
Shannon, I interpreted those two statements to mean that the friend is going to be selling the TV rights, when the author previously wouldn’t.
I’m pretty sure the Oh No They Didn’t community debunked a couple of the CDAN blind items a few years ago. In any case, I can’t take anything seriously that comes from a website with a disclaimer that reads: “In addition to accurately reported information, certain situations, characters and events portrayed in the Blog are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously.”
I have no clue who this writer is, but I hope the whole thing is a hoax. If it’s true, it’s just too heartbreaking.
This frankly sounds like a lot of BS. All future rights? What were the casinos going to do? Knee-cap her? Break her typing fingers?
Jackie Collins has more than a few movies made from her books. The Bitch stared her sissy. And Lucky series has had I think three made from it. The World is Full of Married Men and a few others IIRC.
Not Janet Evanovich. There was even a script written for One for the Money; she definitely sold those rights already. I don’t know why the movie didn’t get made, but it’s not unusual in Hollyweird.
Mia — if she went through all the rigamarole of having a book optioned and a script written and then the film was never made (and you’re right that this isn’t at all unusual) that might be the “bad experience” mentioned in the piece.
