Had I not pushed past the plot elements at the beginning of the book, it would have been a DNF. That’s why the low grade.

Actually, this sounds like the kind of book I devour like candy. I know it isn’t good for me, but I LIKE it. I see the plot flaws, but it still sounds delicious. I’ll bite.

The grade is rather surprising, since your review does make it sound like a fairly fresh, solid, and interesting romance.

I had so much fun with this book–and I loved that she didn’t feel the need to completely make-over Penny in order for Adam to find her attractive. It’s also a bit grittier and more emotionally charged than I think a lot of HH regencies. I’d grade it higher, but I think this is a fair review. She’s writing Tim (the best friend’s) story next. I can’t wait…

I think Christine Merrill is a good writer and it’s not her writing skills that lowered the grade for this one so much as aspects of the plot.

I’ll have to pick this one up. HHs haven’t (ever) really hit the sweet spot with me, so I tend to not even bother checking them out, but I like the sound of this one.
