My in-laws are thousands of miles away, in Scotland. We would LOVE to go and see them, but I haven't spent enough on books this year to pay for even 1/4 of the "gas" (jet fuel) that a visit would take. I take people I love over books every time -- I can always get books from the library -- so I'd stop buying books if it would help us go see them, but it really wouldn't. I bought the new Julia Quinn book today, with my "educator's discount" (save 25% this weekend only!) at Borders. Then I spent a whopping two bucks at the Friends of the Library used book sale -- got seven books for that price, and this year managed not to accidentally buy back something that I donated. I'll have to work out what fraction of a plane ticket to Scotland $9 is. I couldn’t really pick in this one. My in-laws are thousands of miles away, in Scotland.
