Kaetrin, for a while Jo Beverley had some extra stuff up at her website featuring Diana and Rothgar. Some scenes she had written that ended up not quite fitting into the book she was writing at the time.

I must admit that the main reason I read the post-Devilish books was to get a glimpse (or, hopefully, more!) of Rothgar and Diana. I actually read book 4 (Secrets of the Night) first and then Devilish and then went back and read them from 1(My Lady Notorious)-5. Even though number 5 (Devilish) is his story, Rothgar features prominently in all of those books and his character is so richly drawn that I thought the best way to enjoy Devilish was to understand what had come before.
Rothgar is my favourite romance character and I'll happily read just about anything he's in. I also love the Georgian world and the wigs, powder and so on.
A Most Unsuitable Man wasn't my favourite Jo Beverly book but I have her books on auto-buy and they are always a good read.
PS (hint hint if Jo is lurking - Julia Quinn has written some "second epilogues" for her Bridgerton series - I'd love it if Jo could write something similar about Rothgar & Diana.)

By far my favorite Malloren books were the first and last (My Lady Notorious and Devilish)--but if I'd skipped the middle books, Rothgar's comeuppance in Devilish probably wouldn't have been as interesting.

BTW, Beverley's Rothgar chronology (1725-1770) is fab.

Good to see a review of this. I've read three of the five Mallorens (I probably won't read Something Wicked or Secrets of the Night because neither the plotlines nor the author's writing compel me to want to read them), but the remainder of the series, post-Devilish, is sitting in my TBR pile. Oddly enough, this makes me want to read Winter Fire.

Jo Beverley’s website is very good and will give you a run-down on the order of the series. She also has lots of interesting historical bits about her books and the setting of her “world” as well as some photos.

Yes, yes. Wonderful website packed with lots of info about the historical periods she uses. I especially like the pics which show some of the towns used in the books, carriages, clothes and whatnot.

Good review Jayne!

If you are new to Jo Beverley and to the Malloren world, for your own reading pleasure, I don't recommend starting with this book.

I felt the same way as Jayne on reading it. Neither of the two main characters are particularly likeable compared to others in the series and this would be a hard book to get into because this occurs late in the series and much that has happened in previous books (not just Winter Fire) has affected the characters mentioned and actions that occur in this book. First, go back and read the 5 books directly about the Malloren family--they are powerful stuff! Only then read the later ones, like this about friends, relatives and etc. of the Mallorens.

Jo Beverley's website is very good and will give you a run-down on the order of the series. She also has lots of interesting historical bits about her books and the setting of her "world" as well as some photos.

She also has another wonderful series that is set in the Regency era -- The Company of Rogues.
