Plastic Logic to Debut a Flexible Screen E Ink Reader
Newsweek has an article about the demise of the print newspaper and its hopeful Phoenix-like rise from the ashes in a digital reincarnation.  Several companies "will soon launch e-readers with screens the size of an 8.5-by-11-inch piece of paper—and unlike existing e-readers, which have glass screens, these next-generation machines will use flexible, plastic screens that readers won't have to worry about cracking. Richard Archuleta is CEO of Plastic Logic, which this week is set to demo a larger, flex-screen reader that will go on sale next year."

Color eink is a few years off, according to the article, and there is no word on the price point of these larger, flexible devices.

JaneJane is a long time romance reader whose passion is, you guessed it, reading. Jane also does not like to talk about herself in the third person, but apparently this is the way that this biography thing works (although in a true biography, someone else would be writing this blurb). Anyway, currently Jane loves urban fantasy authors Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews. She's really excited about this year's crop of historicals including Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Sherry Thomas' Private Arrangements and the upcoming Loretta Chase Her Scandalous Ways. She's looking for a good contemporary author. Email her with a recommendation! Email this author | All posts by Jane

Hmmm…. I am cautiously optimistic about the device (as an ebook reader, but for newspapers? not so much). I’ll need more details before I get too excited though. If you hear anything else, please let us know, Jane.

    I’d be interested.

Jane, or anybody else, any feedback on the Ectaco Jetbook? I just heard about it and I’m curious.

Given that I had my Cybook about a week before I noticed a seam starting to show evidence that I wasn’t keeping it in a rigid case, I’ll be very interested in seeing the flexible epaper. Of course, I was first promised flexible epaper Real Soon Now about a decade ago…
