Not a lot going on in New York this week.
I’m on the fence about this one. They had me at futuristic and intergalactic war and lost me at ’sex slave hero’. We’ll see.
Jess Granger’s CHAINS OF HONOR, a sexy futuristic romance about a hardened soldier on her final mission who rescues the a former sex slave hero from a deadly fate and their escape from behind enemy lines of an intergalactic war, to Leis Pederson at Berkley Sensation, in a nice deal, for two books, by Laura Bradford at Bradford Literary Agency.
This blurb is super-vague and I can’t tell if there is an author in the story causing conflict, or if the author mentioned is Joanna Trollope.
Joanna Trollope’s THE PIANO MAN, the death of a twice-married singer causes the uneasy truce between families to turn to complicated onflict from the belowed author of many international bestsellers, to Trish Todd at Touchstone Fireside, in a very nice deal, for publication in Spring 2009, by Joy Harris (US).
Another duet anthology (there was one last week as well). A new trend?
Jaci Burton’s erotic novella, based on her Wild Riders series, to Kate Seaver at Berkley, for a duet anthology with Lora Leigh, by Kimberly Whalen at Trident Media Group.
More Aphrodisia acquisitions. The line must be doing well for Kensington.
Crystal Jordan’s DANGEROUS TEMPTATIONS, KITH AND KIN, and EVERY WITCH WAY, to John Scognamiglio of Kensington Aphrodesia, in a nice deal, by Lucienne Diver at The Knight Agency.
Never read one, but these seem to have a strong following. Isn’t there a magic talking cat in most of them?
Robin Owens’s HEART CHANGE, the story of a commoner and a noblewoman; a man with little magic and a woman whose catalyst magic dramatically changes lives, and HEART JOURNEY, to Cindy Hwang at Berkley, in a nice deal, in a three-book deal, by Deidre Knight at The Knight Agency (NA). Can he be sexually repressed if he’s under her ‘erotic spell’? This sounds weird and lurid.
David Dvorkin’s INSATIABLE and UNQUENCHABLE, the first two book in the Prisoner of the Blood series, about a morally-conflicted sexually-repressed reluctant vampire transformed into a super-vampire, on the hunt for the female vampire who converted him, even while he’s still subject to her erotic spell, to Vera Nazarian at Norilana Books, in a four-book deal (world English).
I thought I was sick of fairies, but this sounds a little different. Could be interesting. Reminds me a little of the Nutcracker.
Jackie Dolamore’s MAGIC UNDER GLASS, in which a dance-hall girl discovers the spirit of a dashing fairy gentleman trapped inside a clockwork automaton, waiting for someone to break his curse, to Melanie Cecka at Bloomsbury Children’s, in a pre-empt, in a two-book deal, by Jennifer Laughran at Andrea Brown Literary Agency (World).
Poor girl just can’t give up her Harry Potter fix.
J.M. DeMatteis’s IMAGINALIS, the adventures of a young girl who is forced to rescue a cast of characters from Limbo when her favorite book series is cancelled, to Brendan Bowen at Bowen Press, by Brendan Deneen at Objective Entertainment.

Yeah, what’s up with the whole sex slave thing? Just seems like an excuse to get some heat into a story.
I like the Robin D. Owens series and have read them all. I don’t like how they moved to trade, though.
Is it totally ridiculous of me to be sad that mine got skipped?
Courtney - your’s got skipped because we started on the 14th and yours was added late on the 13th (between the end of the last week and the start of the new week’s reportage). We’ll add it in. Didn’t mean to skip you.
Thanks, Jane! :)
I’m pretty sure Joanna Trollope is the author referred to in the Piano Man description.
Courtney has a fabulous story of how her manuscript sold, here.
Do try Robin D. Owens’s HeartMate series; HeartMate is the title of the first book. They are a combination of futuristic, psychic, romantic, and socio-political elements. The main characters and some of the secondary ones develop “familiar” relationships with psychic animals, most of whom are cats; in addition there are several dogs and a fox. Their humans call them “fams.” The banter between Fams and their humans provide much of the books’ comic relief. Many of the residences also have developed sentience.

(((sigh)))
You really should try the Heart series. So fun! Very well thought out world-builiding. :o)
