I read over at GalleyCat that a new book review blog is starting up called LitMob.com. It’s a very easy to look at blog that is well organized with the rankings easily identified on the left hand side with sparkling stars. The blog has some experienced individuals at its helm. The creators include Doug Perkul, former Associate Publisher at SPIN Magazine; Stephen Blackwell, the current Editor-In-Chief of Death + Taxes Music Magazine,; Stefan Nadelman, Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner, RES Fest Winner; and Scott Wamsley, Editor of “The Skinny”. According to the press release, “The site will not focus on bestsellers such as those reviews found at The New York Times, but rather reviews of books that will be read and talked about by cutting-edge consumers.”
I don’t have any idea who the cutting edge consumer is.
Cutting edge? Hmm. Perhaps they mean Emo. I know, that was bad.
I don’t know who they’re targeting, either. It sure isn’t me; I looked over their page and not a single book appealed.
I like it better over here.
I’m obviously not cutting edge it seems but then, judging by what I’ve just read on their site, these guys aren’t the sharpest tools in the box either. Their review of an interview with Gore Vidal seems to have been written by a ten-year-old with learning difficulties.
Maybe it’s the consumer who buys first editions of books old enough (and unread enough) that they need their pages slitting open?
