The British library is scanning rare books in its collection and making them available online. The “Turning the Pages” project has a database of twenty books including early Jane Austen, the first atlas of Europe, Mozart’s musical diary and several others.
Turning the Page choose to use Microsoft’s Siverlight software which means only Windows Vista or XP machines can access the information. I wonder why they couldn’t choose to use Adobe which is cross platform compatible. Still, despite the software limitations, the project is good for the consuming public and the spread of knowledge.
