The Big News

Sarah from SB, Kassia K from Booksquare, Marcella White Campbell, aspiring romance author, and I were interviewed by The Today Show. The show will air on Friday 8:00 EST. Also interviewed were Nora Roberts and Beverly Jenkins.

That’s all my fingers can type right now.

I will TRY to catch it here on the left coast, before the day-before-the-wedding really gets going, but if I can’t, I will hope for it on the NBC site or YouTube. Great to know that the Today show has such great taste in guests!

  17. Hey, don’t leave us non-Americans out in the cold! What’s the interview about? Did you manage to spot any hunky celebrities on your way there? Was the interview conducted in the studio or were you interviewed and taped at home? Details, details…

  18. A heads up to everyone.

I live in Ohio (EST) and just checked what time the Today Show starts out here. 7:00 AM. So you might want to set your recorders for 7 rather than 8, just in case.

    Can’t wait to see this!

  20. That is so cool. I have to work and am in the dark ages and don’t have TIVo but if you get a link for You Tube or if Today.com has it on their site, let me know I would definitely be interested.

  23. Usually, the Today show puts up video from their show on their web site, but I am not sure if it is the entire show or just selected snippets. I know that the first full hour is available when you click “Netcast: Watch Show.”

  24. Awesome news!

Mrs. G., they were interviewed as part of the Today Show’s coverage of RWA’s national convention, so it was probably in the media room at the hotel or their SF affiliate. I like how they picked a diverse roster of folks to interview. I can’t wait to watch it!

  27. Congratulations! Fabulous news. I’ll have to watch it. My roommate here in San Francisco called her husband asking him to tape the segment in case we don’t get it here.

    Congratulations again Jane!

  28. Did anyone see this? I didn’t remember to turn on Today until 8:30 or so, and I saw a stupid cooking segment and Cheryl Crow singing. Was it a good piece???

  29. Michelle, I think we tuned in at the same time. I am not a fan of the Today Show so I don’t think I’ll be sticking around. If someone else saw it, just tell us about it, please. Thanks.

  30. I saw most of it, but was disappointed. They showed more scenes from “Sex and the City” (which isn’t even technically romance) than they did scenes from the conference. Nora had a nice spot. A few others made comments about George Clooney but I missed why.

The worst part was the subtitle on the screen “Sex between the covers” which will just continue the “female porn” reputation.

Oh, there was a quote from someone from “trashybooks.com” and she seemed to be having a great time.

At least they did say that the writers are marketing execs and other high powered careers as well as SAHM’s.

  31. The answer to why they spoke about George Clooney may be in a post on the smart bitches trashy books blog in the RWA Random Pieces of the Day (7/31) post. It does sound like there were some preconceived notions the produces wanted to confirm in the piece and they looked for or even staged certain moments.

  32. The video is up on the Today Show website. Hopefully, the link works. If not, just go to the Today Show video site and choose “Romance Novel Sales Boom”.

ETA: The video is about 3 minutes long.

  35. Our Jane is in the background listening with rapt attention as Jenkins reads from one of her books. She’s wearing a black and white dress.

  36. Ohh ok, thanks Jayne…darn I wish the whole segment could have been longer.

Stupid editing, stupid preconceptions. Less of the TV/movie angle and more of the books/authors/readers would have been much more interesting. I loved SB Sarah’s description of the filming, though. And I’m still giggling that they listed the Smart Bitches web site as “trashybooks.com”!
